Gas Mileage Post
« on: August 10, 2005 - 04:57:40 PM »
Okay, so I know this is kind of crazy but, I'm curious what everyone gets for miles per gallon with their cars if they know. If you know could you please list Cuda or Challenger, Engine Size, Carb Specs, Tranny, and Gears? I'm just curious and I know someone is gonna say why should we worry about MPG?

Car: 68 Cuda
Engine: 408
Trans: A833
Carb: Holley 650 vac sec /750dp
Gears : 4:30

mileage : based on a 1/2 tank of gas (last week) 30 miles = 1/4 tank = approx 8-9 miles/gal  driven easy w/650

The longest run I made yet is Carlisle - 500 mile round trip  - including touring the fairgrounds....

14 mpg's average

66 cuda
360
tunnel ram w/ 2 390 vac secondary holleys
904
3.23's
and a 25" tall tire
most of the ride I was spinnin the motor at 3200 rpm at 75 mph...

I was impressed with the mpg's!!!

My 71 cuda with the 472 hemi, 2 Carter 750's, 3.23 gears, gets around 7-8 MPG if I'm in cruise mode, probably around 5 if I'm having a little fun with it.

The 74 with the 360, auto with a TQ and 3.55 gears gets around 12MPG in local driving.

My 2000 CTD 2500 4X4 gets around 14 in local driving, 22 on the highway, and around 15-16 towing my enclosed 22 foot trailer.

Car - 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
Engine - 440ci Magnum 4bbl AVS Cater
Transmission - TorqueFlite-727
Rear End - SureGrip 3:55:1

MPG before resto wasn't "too" bad, roughly 13 mpg and she was SICK!  :ack: Aiming for 17-18 MPG when she comes out.
Hopefully more but that would not be driving it properly, "JUST" touching the pedal!

70 Challenger
440 engine
3:23 rear

12 miles per gallon cruising at 3000 RPM on the highway. That's about 67-68 MPH. Believe it or not, I'm happy with these numbers.

 6pak2go,
I think you got to what makes all these cars different. Most aren't set-up for the easy highway stuff. Most want a little get up and go, now and then. I have a Holley 800 cfm double pumper on mine to help the get up and go part.  :burnout: So I know that doesn't help gas mileage. I have to question NZ wanting 17-18 with 3:55 gears. Good luck buddy    Hey, driving these cars is all in fun. I couldn't do it everyday. I went on a voyage with mine this past weekend that lasted 585.9 miles round trip. Yes, it was fun... but MAAAANNN, it was alot of filling up.

I`ve never really figured mine but a rough guess would be 8-10,probably closer to 8 the way I drive it!  :burnout: Biult 340 Holley 750 DP 4 spd 3.91`s 26-27" tire,4000 rpm at 75-80 on the highway sucks a lot of gas.
