    2) You must have a very light foot, and drive quite mellow.

    I have heard, 22, 26, 28, even 32 MPG from a cummins before.
    I have drove.........
    92 Cummins tow truck, 4x4, 4:10's, five speed. 14 best, empty.
    95 Cummins 2x4, Auto, 3.55's. 17 best, no trailor, no weight....
    2002 Cummins, 1 ton dually, 4x4, felt like 4:10's, it got about 18 light.
    I have seen.........12-18 from them, my 71 318 powerd D200 get 14, behind a lighter loaded powerstroke getting 12 (98 powerpoke, 2x4 dually), and monkeys fly right out my butt! OK, maybe not, but still.........................over 20 is BS in my book.
    Chev Duramax 1 ton 4x4 12' flatbed, got 12.3 loaded, from a honest guy.

    These are the averages reported to me by my dealership customers and are Imperial MPG. 12 valve=19-32, 24 valve=17-26, CRD=17-24.
    Hope this helps, these are unloaded figures.

    we took our compony truck! to pigion forge tenn! a round trip of 530 miles!! there and back!! we filled up on the way down drove around for three days and back and never stoped to get fuel!! it was a 2002 dodge cummins 2500 i cant remember how many gals it took to fill her up but it got 24 mpg!!

    BTW, just did a mileage evaluation for a customer today as he said he couldn't get more than 14.8 mpg. Truck is a 2005 3500 SRW and got about 1500lbs of extras. on a test loop of 63 miles it averaged 20.9 imp MPG @ 67MPH

    Hope this clears up some of the confusion for you.

    I ll have body shop pics fro when I redid my 79 Chevy Pu soon (still need camera. can I get pics another way?).  Tis' to high to tow any thing with. Got tweeked 454 in it btchn sound, but there is an enormous 13.5 to 15 gal. hwy isnt that amazing. ;). Not Dodge but still the best truck I own.

    Time to get this thread back on track..... while these aren't mine personally, they belong to the Fire Dept I'm on. They are the first 3 pieces of motorized apparatus the town had; a '19 Model T, '29 Chevy, and a '39 Chevy. (I know, no Dodges.... oh well). Still, they are a source of pride to the department. The '29 & '39 have been owned by the department since new; the '19 was sold when it was retired from regular service. A bunch of the guys back in the '60's found it, bought it back, (literally in pieces, in multiple boxes) and rebuilt it.
