The dates are known as SPDs - Scheduled Production Dates. It is the day they HOPED the car would be built at the time of order, but there is no way to know if any given car was actually built on it's SPD. The original engine in my T/A has a final assembly date a few days after the cars SPD as one example.

My Challenger R/T Convertible's SPD is October 13th 1969...
My Coronet R/T Convertible's SPD is September 11th 1967....The strange part is I bought the car on September 11th 2001...The day the we were attacked....It was strange enough buying the car that day, but when I saw the SPD it was kinda weird....

I could be mistaken but I think August is the start of the next model year.  So say the '71 model year would start August, 1970.  My '72 Challenger  was made 8/17/71, etc...
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Yep. January through September are 1-9 after that they went to ABC to keep the SPDs down to three digits.

There are some cars known with 102 dates that actually are October 2nd, but they are errors from whoever was stamping tags in that range.

My 340 car was built July 20th 1970. It was a very late built car and was the last 340-4 sp.built in Galens registery. He said he had a hemi car and 2 -440+6 cars built the last weel of July. I think production usually ends in July. August is used for re-tooling and Sept. they start putting out the new model year.

My Challenger convertible has a build date of Sept. 29, 1969 - looks like one of the early build cars. Kinda cool.
