The norwegian Cuda.
« on: September 22, 2005 - 09:09:08 AM »
Hi, since we get so many nice reports from Kowalsky down under, her is a Cuda project from the bitter north! the Barracuda is finaly in storage and my procject is underway. I've poseted the same post over at www.pro-touring.com
My 1970 Plymouth Barracuda is changing colours this winter. I bought the car from Seattle in march this year. A voyage around the world waited. After a 2 month swim on the atlantic the Barracuda reached Norwegian shores. The key was turned, the 340 came to life and I drove it 620 miles home. Since I got the car, I've added the roadlamps and a Rallye dash cluster.

Now I've had the car, and had fun with it for the summer, It's time to get busy. Here are some pics of the teardown.

Engine compartment will get the treatment, the only colour that could ever be applied to the 340 is Hemi street orange, so It will be.

Here I am, turning the car around.

I'm getting the stock rectangular exhaus tips.

The migthy mopar with some of it's winter storage pals, A Nissan Laurell 3.0 V6 behind it, A 78 Ford Capri with a Cosworth turbo engine, an 71 Opel Manta, and a 78 Opel Kadett.

The 67 Mustang is a stock 289 a/c car.

Here I am screwing the door of.

There seems to be little rust, glad I got a west coast car.  :)

The plans for the winter besides the paint job is new wheels and hopefully som new TTI headers.

The colour will be Nissan Apple Pearl green, AAR stripes, and an AAR spoler will help the look of the car.

I want to build the suspention to, but that has to wait. The paint and the wheels takes most of my budget for the winter. The car have already seen some track duty, and the old 318 torson bars is not up for the job.

Can't wait to start assemblying it again with the new paint!

The last picture I took yesterday evening, the engine is coming out today, stay tuned

I really wanted a green AAR from the beginning, and I had a deal on a lime light AAR clone when I was looking for a cuda, but that car was under restruation and I had to wait, so I bought the cheaper black one instead. Then a buddy of mine who workes at a body shop came to me an said he wanted to paint my car, and that he'd talk to his boss and make me an good price, the green colour came back to me. I wanted a Lime light or a Sassy Grass green car, but I also wanted to go pro-rouring/g-machine and use a non original colour, so I landed on the Nissan colour. It changes abit with the sunlight and can appear close to both the original colours and get a nice gold shine to it in direct sun, so I went with that. I have an AAR hood to go with the stripes and spoiler. Since my car is a 318 car without a fendertag I figured I could do my own twist to it. And yeah, mopars look way bether in sheet metal. ;)

Didn't get the engine out tonite, but the interior was ribed and a good cleanup around the car(where does all the mess come from?). :)

This is me, The mechanix at least are green.

The interior is out, only the dashpad and the headliner is left.

As requested a photo of the colour. Nissan Apple Pearl Green. I don't think the photo does the colour right dough. I've had the fender so I could see the colour in diffrent light.

Ok, here is an update, got a lot done today.. here are the pictures you are craving :)

I got the windows out today, minor rust under the windshild.

The headliner is on it's way out. I got a hand from my dad to. It's great to spend some time with my dad working on the Cuda.

The engine is leaving it's bay. Got a hand from a friend and my dad (right). In the back a friends '71 Nissan 240Z Fairlady.

Ladies and gentlemen, this Mopar powerhouse is a "Littl hemi" 340!  ;)

A good cleanup is needed, and a fresh layer of Street hemi orange is due for the 340.

The enginebay, will get a cleanup and a paintjob too. 727 auto.

This is me, securing my V8 to the enginestand.

That's it for now boys and gals! My AAR hood rests in the back..
