Ideas for a 1971 Cuda Restore?
« on: September 25, 2005 - 02:49:57 PM »
I want Do the car kind of custom but keep a stock look to it. This is my idea Sassy Grass Green, Black leather interior, Dakota digital Gauges(Green display), Keep the Cuda "power Bulge" hood, Have two Black stripes running from the front into the intakes. Black Bilboard on the rear fenders with either 340 440 or 500 (depending on which engine I go with). Black tinted windows, Gilled fenders,

Please list your Ideas or anything you think I should change (Critisim and new ideas are very welcome).

IMO a flat black hood would look better.

I would delete the stripes on the hood, leave it body color.  Go with the billboards.  Mother built them good looking from the factory, no need for extra fuss.  Wheels can make a larger impact than almost any crazy paint scheme, in my opinion.

I myself am not a huge fan of Sassy Green, limelight....NOW your talking!!
I think the two stripes coming up to the scoops would ruin it, I really do, look's too 80's.

Limelight, Black interior and a nice sports stripe with chunky rallye wheels would set it off. Simple and classy yet so mean!

No to hood and maybe on billboard. Burpin has never been a huge fan of the billboard. But please pick good rims and tires. And the tinted windows rock. forget the law.

Sal,
Is that you in the avatar?  That's how you should look when approaching someone for parts!

The reply will be, "OK mister, just take 'em!  Don't hurt me!"

Just my 2 cents.  Here's what I would do (Of course limited by the almighty $$$):
Bill boards are cool, uniquely 'Cuda!  Digital gauges are neat but harder to read quickly vs analog.  Auto Meter has a cool line of gauges that have a black background, blue digits, red/orange needles.  Some people are popping aftermarket gauges  right into the pods of non-rallye dash panels and it looks cool and might be cheaper than finding a rallye dash panel.   Black leather is cool, gotta have a '71 Go Wing, gull wing style.  Don't forget the '71 'Cuda only side gills on the front fenders.  Looking at the posted pictures, yellow looks pretty nice.  Could make it unique by making it triple black,Triple White,  White with with white bilboards, triple red, etc...  Rallye hood is nice but a shaker is cool    There are some fiberglass reproductions that you might be able to make it work.  Some people put little lights in the openings of thier rallye hood openings.  A little ricey but it looks cool at night!

Hmmmm...rims and ride height......hmmmmmm.  Stock rallyes are nice if you want to go mild.  If you want to go wild, got to go for monster meats, 50 series on Cragers/Weld Racing/American Racing rims, 15s all around, 10 inch wide in back.  Nothing says "I'm gonna kick your butt!" at a redlight like a big set of rear tires (Gotta lift that rear end of course!) and a loud exhaust!

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I like this one a lot, but I'm biased since I built it.
It was a 71 gran coupe when I started.
Now it's a 340 shaker with a pistol grip 4-speed, leather interior.
Never was a fan of the billboards since if you get one little scrape, you have to buy a new pair.
You have to have the gills. I even put them on my wife's 73 cuda.
