Truck VIN help
« on: September 29, 2005 - 09:00:58 PM »
While on my way to work I found a '77 dodge 200 truck for sale.  The owner wasn't around and I wanted to know what size engine it has.  The VIN is W24BF7S159XXX.  I am looking for a 360.  Does the VIN have that info?  Thanks!

Make sure you climb under it and look at the drivers side of the block, it should say blah blah blah-360-blah blah.
trucks can also have a k for 360.

oops, and a F for 400.

Truck vins never seemed to be documented properly, I dont know why it is so complicated, but I have seen G (318) trucks with 225's too.
Dang dodges, I should buy a Chevie!

That is the HD 360, this motor is not found in trucks 1 ton or smaller.

You always have to decode the VIN with the year it was produced as codes change.
The cars do this as well.  Hemi's J's went to R's , 383 hp went from H's to N's.

Or.........camper 9000's, 10,000's and military trucks. (even half tons)
Yeah. This is from what I have seen.
I would love to have whatever code book you have!
I lost mine a couple years ago.
