R/T VS R/TSE

Can some one help me and tell me the difference between an R/T and an R/T SE. Besides the Vin #, and overhead console what other options did the R/T SE have that were not on the R/T.

Upgraded interior (leather, door panel trim, cloth headliner), small rear window, exterior trim (Vinyl top, A63 pkg std, and SE roof emblems).

The small rear window should give it away. Nobody with a sane mind would put that on a car!!! If it's there, it's an S/E or R/T S/E.

The cloth and vinyl seats were a credit option delete. The vin will be JS29 for tjhe RT/SE.

The cloth and vinyl seats were a credit option delete. The vin will be JS29 for tjhe RT/SE.


Leather was standard on the SE.  Cloth & vinyl and leather were also available as additional cost options on all Challengers except the Deputy.   Those interiors also included the carpet and reflectors and wood grain on the door panel except for the Special Edition script and the rear seat ashtrays.  Also, the SE was a model not a trim package thus the VIN number difference.

I agree mike you would have to be insane to install one of those on purpose! you can't see SH*T out of the small back window of an se!!!
also another option on an se is the carpet strips along the bottom of the door panels!! boy are those nice if you like to kick the door open with your shoes! the panels don't get scratched! at least I believe that is an se option!!

Everyone above has just about said it all...........the R/T SEs were for the crowd who wanted power and additional comfort or convenience items.    Generally the SE optioned cars had more options on them.........not always of course but usually.  In addition the R/T SE were produced in far less numbers.   They were produced only in 1970 also.

I know the car is not SE.It has some SE type items all in the iterior Which I believe makes it unusal I just wonder how unusal?. I have had several people look at the car and at first view think it is an R/T SE and this is why.

Thumb radio
Doors have carpet,reflectors and woodgrain inlay But does not have the SE signia.
Cloth headliner
Ashtray in rear seat panels panels.
Chrome along door plates.

 How would I find something like that out?
 I have E-mailed  Galen but have heard nothing back on tracking the origin of the car.

N41 and N42 are not contradictions, theyre compliments   You can have N41 without N42 but not the other way around,  the rest are just options that the buyer chose.    You could order just about whatever combination of options you wanted to, if you were willing to wait for delivery (IE the Y14, it was pre-ordered)    Whats the 4character code for the interior (thatll be on the Fender tag and we can tell if it was factory leather or not).


Are you absolutely sure the car is original and unmolested ?      never-ever ?    (Shrugging SMiley)

The SE car is nothing but a series of added trim pieces all in a basic package that they called a "Model".   Theres no special structure to body or frame, no special engine, all the SE stuff could be found or just painted argent and bolted or screwed on including the Formal back Window to any other Challenger around. 


On previous cars that I have owned I used to go to the junk yards, and look/find cars like mine, and if the Junkyard car had better parts or options than mine had, out it came and I put it in mine.   Factory parts in a factory car, just not from the factory.    20 - 35 years later you wouldnt have been able to tell whether I did it or the factory did ?


Had a 93 Nissan kingcab PU that I went and pulled interior parts out of a Pathfinder and a SE-X 4x4 for.....   

Had a 81 Cutlass that I swapped out all kinds of interior stuff for.....  all kinds of GMs 

The 66 Olds had a few upgrades I made with factory parts out of other vehicles.....


Bottom line:   if the car isnt fender tagged or broadcast sheeted for the stuff......       youll never know if it was factory or added in later, and never be able to prove it one way or the other.     (insert winking smiley and thumbs up smiley)
