beefed up chassis
« on: October 02, 2005 - 08:13:24 PM »
would putting all 4 torque boxes and sub frame connectors on be overkill or recommended? My engine is a 426 Hemi. But, a long ways from installation.

my set up will be normally aspirated. I want to be around 500 to 600 HP with excellent response from the takeoff.

4 torque boxes and frame connectors would not be overkill on a hemi car.  Torque boxes on all 4 corners came standard on hemis anyway.

The frame conenctors are an extra bonus that I think are needed on a car generating that king of torque and hp.  Definitely need something to tie the subframes together so frame connectors are the way to go.

Thanks for the advice. Then I'll do all 6 pieces. My original theory was that I may only need the front torque boxes and connectors.

Hey Topcat, as already mentioned that's a good idea for any high performance e-body. The true hemi cars were actually built on convertible bodies with a hardtop added. The torque boxes were already on the convertibles due to the lack of strength in the body since there wasn't a roof. So if you see someone claiming they have an original hemi cuda and you want to check it out, look for the torque boxes, they would all have them. Just some interesting information where the engineers came up with the stiffer body for this torque monster! Weld in frame rails and torque boxes are great body stiffeners, the HEMI is a great body stiffener all by itself but in another area of the body that we shouldn't mention!! LOL
