Same here Rusty, mine was pretty rusty and needed lots of panel and patches but nothing like Kyles!  :eek2: My `70 road runner should be a piece of cake as she`s pretty solid looking.

Hey everyone.  It has been a while since I have done anything to the car.  I bought a house in August and my priorities changed big time.  Now that some of the house projects have been wrapped up I can finally get back to the car!  I really like the new Members Restoration Project section and I would like for a moderator to move this thread over there.

First thing I did was remove the drivers side door to work on the hinges.  I was tired of having the door drop 2” when I opened it.

Here is a pic of the old and new pin for the lower hinge.  Can anyone say worn out?!?!  I had to weld and redrill the holes in the hinge because they were egg shaped.

Once I got the door back on and aligned it I cut out most of the rear quarter.

Since I removed the back glass I can now work on replacing the rocker panel, outer wheel housing, rear quarter, trunk gutter, and the deck filler panel.  I couldn’t resist hanging the new quarter up just for fun.

Next I wanted to get the rear floor pan situated before I take out the rocker panel.  Since I went freestyle and made my own rocker patch panel at the forward spring mount, I had to make another little extension so the factory panel will fit (Ya I know it‘s not pretty, but it'll work... I hope!!!).

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Nice work, did you make the rear floor pan?  I guess I could go read the whole post
Ya, pretty much.  It was kind of disheartning to see that Goodmark is going to start repopping complete floor panels. I did all of that stuff for nothing.  D'oh!  And though it doesn't look that great it'll all get covered with dynamat and carpet.  Hopefully I will always keep it shiny side up so no one will see the ugly underside!  But I think it's pretty solid.  If/when that part of the floor under the seat breaks apart I'll let everyone know!

All of that exposed rust above the wheel housing and below the roof line will be dealt with before that new quarter gets slappen on, that's for sure!  Besides, before it's all said and done I think that I will have pretty much have everything replaced with new metal, so there wont be any rust left. :)  So far I have used Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator and and sprayed primer/sealer in the frame rails and in every nook and cranny of the new metal.  Once I get the back half all squared away I'd like to have it epoxy primed.

It has almost been a year since my last update and I am still not done with that stupid drivers side rear quarter panel.  I have probably had it on and off about 100 times to double check that I didn't screw up anything to badly behind it.  The pics below pretty much explain what I have been up to.

Kyle

I had to keep cutting more and more of my roof off in order to find something solid to weld to...
