1973 Challenger
« on: October 11, 2005 - 02:37:44 AM »
This is a 1973 Challenger I have been looking at. I don't know much about the car, I only know its a 1973, 318, black buckets with Console, power disc brakes, 26" radiator, black stripe, Top Banana color, black top, and a few other options. I lost the fender tag numbers I wrote down. Looking over the car it seems to be in amazing shape, no real surface rust and the quarters look original. Underneath looks just as good, including rust free torsion bar mounts and leaf spring mounts. I'm not sure if it has the original motor and trans in the car, I never talked to the owner yet. Its owned by a co workers neighbor. The exterior is very reasonable and with a little work could be an easy daily driver, the interior needs work, seats and carpet isn't great, but everything is there.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what this car would be worth, assuming no numbers matching motor/trans. I owned a 340 Duster about 10 years ago and have wanted a Cuda ever since, however, the prices are out of control compared to 5 years ago. So I was considering buying this car to either do over the way I would like it, or to trade towards a Cuda.

Thanks

Dave

Being a 318, flat hood I would guess $10K - $12K.  Nice looking car.

OK, do you know for sure this car is for sale? I mean, is there a "asking" price to start the negotiations? As far as numbers matching or not, don't sweat it if it's originally a 318 car. It isn't a big deal with a 318(I have no idea why). The interior stuff is probably the cheapest fix, although nothing is real cheap with these cars. It looks pretty darn good in my opinion, but you mentioned a black stripe???? That would be a strobe stripe down the side, which looks great. I guess this has been repainted? In any case, it's definitely worth your attention. My guess for worth... 12-K????

Well I appreciate the input guys. If all goes well, I'm told the guy was asking $3500Cdn, which I thought was bogus. I would have looked further into it months ago, but I was waiting to find a Cuda locally. So, when I get back to town i'm gonna talk to the guy over the weekend. I'll find out more information and give an update. If the price is right i'll be buying it and either putting some money into it, or looking to trade it/sell it for a Cuda.

Thanks

I just found a few more pics...I know how everyone likes pictures. I didn't have much time the day I took the pictures, but I do remember the car being in amazing shape. It is sitting in a Self Storage under a tarp. I'm still waiting to find the diamond in the rough 'Cuda..haha. But I may go with this car if the price is right. Anyone from Alberta, Canada? I'm from Eastern Canada and don't know where to go to see about getting restoration work done when I finally do purchase a car.

Wow that's a clean Challenger!!! I'd be all over that in a heartbeat.
Just remember your not the only one out looking for a good deal on a Mopar, so if you got the cash get trying to make the deal ASAP. If the guy gets told about E-Gay it's a gonner!!! I ran across a 70 Barracuda sitting in some apartments where I used to live a few years ago and didn't move quick enough and someone snatchd it up! I'm still kicking myself!
I'm out almost every weekend exploring different areas where I live, just looking for a possible Mopar deal for my soon to be 16 year old son, and I get people dropping by my house whenever I park my Challenger out front doing the same thing.

That would be an amazing price!!  You could make some "cuda" money on this one.

Hey Dave,

Where is the car located? Where are you located, and where back east are you from? I am from back east and living in Alberta. I would love to look into buying this car. I've been looking for a challenger for a long time and I haven't seem to find the right one. If it's a cuda your looking for I can give you a lead on a guy that has one for sale, here are the specs on the cuda:
73 Cuda, 340 4 spd, 3.23 SG, Lemon Twist w/ black stripe, all numbers match.

I was looking into getting it but I want to get my challenger instead. AS for getting restoration work done I have lots of contacts. I just finished restoring a 1951 Dodge 2 door buisnessman's coupe (which is for sale). If anyone would like to see pics or more info, just ask and I'll post some info..... Let me know and I'm sure we can trade information!!!!!!!
