Where do you mount your amp?
« on: October 12, 2005 - 11:07:24 AM »
Am going to be installing nice amp in Challenger.  Where is the best place to install?  Would it go under seat?  Or is it pretty much confined to trunk mount?

I didn`t try under the seat but just see if yours fits.I made a bracket that bolts to the cross bracing in the trunk behind the back seat and with the spare tire in place you hardly see it.

Another thought is to mount it up underneath the package tray.  I know someone who did this and it was a pretty cool idea cause you cannot see it through the trunk unless you're really looking for an amp.  I think he routed the wiring along the V-brace and down into the rest of the light wiring harness back up front.

I think you are pretty much doomed to mount it in the trunk, or maybe glove box if you are creative enough. There isn't much room to work with under the seats.

We installed our one on the left hand side of the trunk where the old spare jack use to be.
We made a custom mount that also houses the CD Changer. The CD Changer can be tilted with adjusment bolts.

Very neat set up. :-)

The trunk does seem to be the answer . . .I have an amp mounted in the trunk of both cars.  Not much room anywhere else!!

Another factor is will you be carrying a spare tyre? If so what size?

I had absolutely no choice but where I did to put mine, I have a 245 spare. lol

Thought I'd post a few photos of where mine is mounted.

Custom made bracket that holds the Amp and 6 CD Stacker.
You can adjust the stacker (tilt) but you need to unscrew the holding screws. It's VERY tight, no wobbling etc, solid as steel.

Mind the wiring as the loom hasn't been finally fitted and wrapped as yet once it's complete there will be no wiring etc showing. :-)
We removed the old hook for the jack as I'll be getting a more modern compact jack kit.
Also, mind the sound deadener, it's 80% complete along with the grubby brown/black working marks in the deep trunk tray.

Cheers,
Carl

Yip, only problem was that we had to install an aerial switch to manually put the aerial up or down.
That's cool it's next to the steering column. I wanted to have that because if I listen to the CD which will be 95% of the time I didn't want to have the aerial up so I can have the aerial up down half way and everywhere in between. The CD stacker works with the same company's (Pioneer) head unit...Thanks for the comments lads....shes getting there been a while but worth the wait. :-)

Cheers,
Carl

I'm using 6x9 speakers. I didn't want any subs etc, extra weight (although good for traction) and I didn't want the "Boy Racer" image.
I'm using Pioneer 6x9" TS-A6991S Speakers, with 460watts and a powerful amp running them I'll have loud clear crisp music.
Ideal for my taste in music, Rock n Roll. AC/DC, Rolling Stones, CCR, The Doors, Geroge Thorogood, Chuck Berry etc......

I'm fitting my speakers in the stock location. Everything will apear to be original but not. lol
