Im looking at maybe doing my heads over the long Canadian winter here. Has anyone put on aluminum heads as aposed to cast heads? I understand the weight difference, but was interested in H.P. gain with aluminum. What type have u used, anyone tryed the 340 hemi heads? Thanks

I just bought Edelbrock Magnum small block heads for my 360 (LA block).  The conversion is easy if you plan on changing out the whole valve train.  The heads are lighter and they flow around 240-250 at 0.500 out of the box.  We'll see how she runs in the spring (its a 408 stroker)

I've got Eddy heads on my T/A and a Crane roller rocker set up.  The power is great and there's an approximate 60lbs weight reduction but the engine does tend to sound a little tinny.

What do you have for an exhaust system?

I typically get a 41 hp gain swapping on juckyard 308 truck heads , great bang for the $$
the eddys I looked at were not as well designed as the 308 heads & had bad core shift

Can someone please fill me in on what 308 and Eddy heads are? I am birddogging Matt63 on his 408 buildup, as I am awaitng the funds for my 412/ 360 build. Aluminum heads are definitely going on it . My challenger is on a strict Weightwatchers diet this winter.

308 are the last LA heads avaialable on the 360 trucks from 87-92
the Eddys are the Edelbrock alum heads , my local speed shop has found a lot of the eddy heads to be poorly cast but not all will have bad core shift ... I hope

I had my Eddy's checked out, gasket matched, new springs, clean-up ,etc. and there was no problems except some poor spotfacing on a couple of the bolt bosses.  Flows were in the W2 range.

So, on the 308 heads, would this be a good swap for a mild build up on the 412/ 408 sb stroker? Can they be worked over a little bit for a few more HP?

Also, what would be a good price on a junkyard set of these? I figure the ports will have to be opened up a little bit for the 412.

I pay around $50 for a pair , I would definatly port them , the 308 have smaller ports then the XorJ heads but make more power anyway
