Vin# Replaced
« on: October 15, 2005 - 01:18:52 PM »
I just had my car inspected buy the local DMV in order to title. I asked the question.... What happens when I replace my dash? Do I just pop rivet it back on? His answer was this. The rivets that hold on the vin # plate are special types of rivets and he did not know how to go about getting them. I know many of you are smarter than the average DMV rep. So the question is, How do I reattach my vin plate to install a new dash?

I am in the same situation as you are. So what I did was I bought a set of original NOS "rosebud" rivets off eBay similar to the ones here:

However, if I recall correctly, your dash was in super shape with the exception of a crack in the very center. Looks VERY restorable, so have you looked into having a dash shop repair the crack? That'd save you the hassle of dealing with "question marks" if you replaced the dash and put the VIN tag on.

I would agree. There is a vyn repair guy here in Fargo that did mine and even knowing where it is I still have to look very hard to find it. It only cost me $45.00 a few years ago to get it repaired.

I got to hand it to you guys I never even thought of just having it repaired. The dash is in great shape other than a crack about dead center. Just to the left of the speaker and a small crack on the other side of the center speaker. Was your crack similar?
