5/16" and 3/8" fuel line
« on: October 15, 2005 - 05:51:42 PM »
What are the advantages of running a 3/8 in line over a 5/8 and vise versa.
I believe my 70 Challenger 383 4bbl came with a 5/8 but I will be pulling the fuel line and sending unit and willl replace them with????
Does the added fuel make that much of a difference? Horsepower?

YES!  More fuel the better.

I replaced my 5/16 line with the 3/8 line when I decided to go with the two four barrels on my 440. I didn't want to run into a fuel starvation problem .
If you raelly want fuel reliability, I would definitely go with the 3/8, especially if you're replacing the line anyways!

a 3/8 line will flow approx 25% more fuel , I managed to get my 440 duster to run very low 12s before the 5/16 fuel line became restrictive though, the bigger line will not make more power or get the engine to use more fuel than it can use , doesn`t hurt to use a larger line though

I changed the pick-up to 3/8 as well although I don't know if this makes a big difference.

no point in leaving a restirction in the pickup tube , might as well upgrade the whole system

Since this is a complete tear down it's the time to go to the 3/8 size.
 Thanks for the help.
