440 code on engine

where would u locate the engine type on the block at?

The easiest place would be behind the casting numbers on the drivers side of the block.
Also the ID pad beside the dist hold down will give you 440 engine information.

engine doesn't have a vin # for car just date code right? it's in tranny for matching #'s?

The VIN# was stamped onto the right side of the block above the oil pan rail and just behind the motor mount. The date the block was made is cast into the passenger side. Tranmissions 69 and newer will have VIN#'s stamped into the right side of the bellhousing.
