D is a 68, E a 69, F a 70 etc. this did stop in the early 70's though.
Last year for steel crank in a regular 440 was 1972.  1974 was the last year for a HP 440 with a forged crank.

Funny storry,I got the truck home today to pull the motor when i can and talked to the original swapper that had the 440hp put in.He said a local mountain repair shop put it in and it was out of a 69 charger r/t.Funny thing was about a year ago when i had a 68 roadrunner project i bought a hemi 4 speed from the same repair shop and he said it came out of a 69 charger r/t.I know this is all true considering the Rural locatiion of the repair shop.I sold the hemi 4 speed a year ago when i did some trading with a guy and he wanted it for the RR.So i had the 4 speed from the charger and a year later i have the engine out of the same car, funny how things go around.

Now that's getting close to blasphemy in the worst form! Who'd want to desecrate a Mopar power plant by doing that? LOL, as you said, even if the engine's weren't' built by Chrysler, a huge amount of them Chebys and Fard dragsters are running HEMI's from the same design from the late fifties, the same one Don Garliits used back when they were blowing the doors off of everything with the 392 HEMI.
