How many CCs will it reduce if I take .010 off the heads??
« on: October 20, 2005 - 08:28:35 PM »
I have purchased a set of .055 over flat top Ross pistons.   With stock 88CC  906 heads it will yield 9.78 compression ratio.   I am wanting to ease this up to approx 10.25 or so.  If I take .010 off the head surface what CC and what compression ratio should this yield.   I had a chart that showed me what compression and CC this would yield, but as usual I cannot find it.      With these pistons I have .017 clearance to the top of the block assuming I use .038 head gaskets.     I know there there is another option of using the steel shim gaskets with .020 but I am thinking I would rather shave the heads than worry about using the .020 head gaskets.   I think using the thinner head gaskets gives me greater chance to blow a head gasket and if I did use the steel shim gaskets then I would want to put studs in instead of regular head bolts.........just extra expense.  440 source site tells me 84cc heads will yield 10.04 compression ratio and 78cc heads will yield 10.64 ratio.
Thanks to anyone who can help..........     Kevin

.010 will raise the compression virtually nothing , even at .050 the gain is not significant , I use the steel shim gaskets all the time , I feel they are a better gasket than the the composition gaskets which can push the fibre out far more easily than the solid steel gasket
