Rarest Most Expensive, Hard To Find Parts
« on: October 21, 2005 - 07:41:32 AM »
What are some of the rarest hard to find most expensive parts and pieces for the Cuda or Challengers? Are the quarter tail panel trim pieces hard to get? What about the hood and trunk moldings? Any small metal pieces like stamped brackets or braces? I know NZ had a hard time finding the tail panel trim and there must be several others.

My hardest to find parts (from here in New Zealand anway) are:

 - 1970 Challenger trunk & 1/4 panel moldings. (They now have repros in stock)
 - NOS Grommets
 - Seats
 - Lower Dash trim piece
 - A/C duct (Rev & Redline kindly donated me their one as they purchased an aftermarket system, thanks again Rev)

Plus many more smaller pieces, like window bumper stops, choke pieces, interior mirror bezel.......

Larry,
Rev has a thread in the E-Bay section for those. It only costs you $2500. Heck, get 2 sets while you're at it(ha,ha,ha). Hey, I like the look, but even if I had a 71... I doubt I'd bite at that.

My List:

 - A hemi engine(yuk,yuk)

 - a 70 console(especially a 4 speed)

 - 6 way seat( I have one, but it only works 2 ways(cry smiley)

 - 70 E-Body seat belts. If you have the complete set, you have gold.

 - That tail panel for 70 Challenger S/E's is going for a nice price too.

 - 71 E-Body Gull-wing(waaay more $$$ than a go-wing)

 - as was mentioned once, so I'll say it again... a 71 Cuda grill!!!

OK for us restorers who care about numbers and such:

1. The correct dual point distributor for my 70 Hemi (2d mortgage) Don't got.
2. The correct front AFB carburetor for my Hemi (the rear one with the choke is expensive but the front one is like platinum.) Don't got.

3. And the winner is: the correct Hemi alternator for a 70 automatic (Almost NOS charges over $600 for one that is ALMOST the right part number, but not quite- they can't find the cases with the right #'s.) Don't got!
4. Runner up: Hemi Bendix power brake booster- But I have it!!
5. Second runner up- Hemi automatic trans- Yes , they are different- they have more clutch paks than the other 727's and are rarer than the vintage Hemi blocks are. I got one in the late 90's for $ 1,500.

As far as body stuff goes, good passenger side chrome racing mirrors are pretty hard to find. (Mine is so-so)And I have heard good heater boxes are almost extinct- Got that.

Who said 70 consoles? I have one for sale!

I'm surprised nobody has said the elastomastic (whatever their called) rubber bumpers for Cudas. Also, a NOS rimblow steering wheel should definately be on the list of rarest and most expensive parts. Most of the other parts I can think of have already been mentioned. I am just glad my car was plain-jane R/T SE........
