Hotel reservations for 2006.
« on: October 24, 2005 - 06:09:49 PM »
Recently Rev has mentioned making hotel reservations for next year(yippee!!). It can't get here soon enough!!! My question is this. Although we were far away last year at The Fairfields Inn, we were safe with our cars, and we could hang out in the parking lot all night. It seemed like a good deal to me. I just don't know if we move closer, if we could have the same "lee-way"??? I posted this question on another thread too, sorry for the re-run. Basically, my point is ... we had fun last year, we just need to get up and to the fairgrounds before my car has vapor-lock from sitting in traffic for an hour(LOL). To be honest, I was SOOOOO happy it made it to the fairgrounds before that problem reared it's ugly head. Thankfully I didn't have to ask Topcat, or RustY/Se to push it for me(LOL).

I've been looking over the past week at hotels closer to the fairgrounds than our hotel was last year.  If I need to change gears and re-do some things, I will.  But let me share with you what I have so far.

I think I have called every hotel in Carlisle and went to all the group hotel services through Yahoo, Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, etc.  There are a couple of rooms in some of the hotels around but not enough rooms for a large group.  So, here are our options....you have a choice of 2:  (remember, I can change these and look for something farther away).

Option 1.  We have reserved a block of 20 rooms at the Ramada Limited at Carlisle at a price of $112.45/night for two.  (prices have risen at all the hotels since last year!)

Ramada Limited at Carlisle
1252 Harrisburg Pike
Carlisle, PA 17013
(717) 243-8585

Your room must be reserved by June 6, 2006.  There is a 2 night minimum stay and 1 night deposit is required at time of reservation.  You must use the name Cuda-Challenger.com.

Continental Breakfast is included.

The 20 rooms are broken down as follows:
10 rooms, Non-smoking with 2 queen beds
10 rooms, Smoking with 2 Double beds

Option 2.  I found a website that will give us a great rate on a nice hotel.  The rooms normally go for $177.95 and the group desk would give me a deal at $142.36.  However, if you purchase this room upfront, you can get it at $83/night, and at the moment has availability.  Parking here looks really good, they have an indoor pool, billiard room, and continental breakfast.  Because you must purchase when you make the reservation, I cannot book all the rooms myself (I don't have an extra $6K laying around).  Each of us would have to go to this website and purchase them as soon as possible before they run out.    I can let you know what the website is if this is what we choose to do.

Hotel Carlisle
1700 Harrisburg Pike
Carlisle, PA 17013

Here is a link of a satellite map that lists the two hotel options for this year and the two hotels we've used in the past as a reference.  http://www.ridesthatrock.com/carlisletrip/

I personally did not enjoy the long drive out to the fairgrounds from the Fairfield (and the getting lost part!), but I understand wanting the room for our cars and together time outside.  Please let me know what you all think as soon as possible.

I personally don't care either way so someone make a decision . . . billiard room??  I just learned how to play!!  lol

Even though it was alittle drive, I felt good about where my car was parked and the situation with that hotel.  But whatever everyone decides is OK with me.  I'm sure we can make anything work but sure would like everyone to be together.  The year before (2004) alot of members were at one hotel and others were at another . . . definitely much more fun when everyone is together!

The Fairfield was 14 mile from the showfield, the first day we went we traveled the "back" way, I think the logic here was to avoid the turnpike toll. After that Pam and I went the turnpike route, more direct and less time, and no stopping in traffic until you were in Carlisle where for obvious reasons it's unavoidable. The toll was a mere $1.00 each way, I'd say we spent more than that in gas just idiling along in traffic that first day to the show? I don't really care where we stay, but I do want as many members as possible to be at the same motel, so much nicer.

My vote is if we can block 20 rooms somewhere go with it, either at the Fairfield or wherever or the other place for $83+ a night, but this last place we need to be on our toes and individually get the reservations made pronto !

I'm checking with the Fairfield to see if they are available...will let you know if we have this third option as soon as possible.

A lot of the hotels near the fairgrounds are already booked. One of my usual group tried to get a room at the Hampton Inn where we usually stay, and it's already full. My advice is if you need a large block of rooms is book 'em real soon!

I am afraid our group would get kicked out of Hotel Carlisle.  It does look really nice though. I don't know if they would be able to "handle" us.  LOL.

Yeah...I've called them all...all booked.  But we do have 20 rooms at the Ramada...worst case.  The lady from Fairfield still hasn't gotten back with me.  I'll try again tomorrow.

Which one is that? I don't recall that one. You guys probably aren't that bad. Heck, my crowd hasn't been banished from the Hampton yet, and we have probably given them enough reasons to tell us don't bother coming back.......

The Hotel Carlisle is about 3 miles from the fairgrounds on 11.  It's a bit more upscale than we're used to.  We really weren't that bad except for April's room.  They got in trouble...neener, neener, neeeeener!

LOL, Well it's no wonder, all that foot trafic going in and out, and all that noise too, even one of our own thought this "young lady" might be a bit of a party animal, they didn't realize she was married and also thought she was a tad bit younger, lol. But as it all turned out this person was quite embarrased, "when the real story" came out,LOL. What a hoot.
