Screws
« on: October 25, 2005 - 06:26:23 AM »
I am looking to start collecting the many fastners I will need in the months to come to re-assemble the Challenger. I have seen lot o packs of fastners on e-bay for the rear valance, front valance, interior screw packs etc....
What kind of quality are these packs? How true to original. Which source has better quality?

Hey Tropical.  Call my brother, John Martin.  He owns MMS Stainless.  He has all the interior, engine and body fastener kits for our e-bodies.  They are all stainless and he will give you a nice price.  Here's his website...and he said he'd give c-c.com members 10% off.  http://www.mmsacc-stainless.com/

Tell him Laura sent you.

Frank Badalson, at Roger Gibson Auto Restoration sells some fasteners. He isn't always the cheapest (but fasteners are cheaper than carburetors) but his stuff is dead on correct. After all, he is partners with the king concours restorer Roger Gibson.

Funny, FB buys most of his fasteners from R/T Specialties, what his doesn't he just gets old fasteners replated.

FY1: I don't get your point. I said that he might not be the cheapest, but all his stuff is correct. Tropicalcats is doing a correct restoration on his matching #'s car. I know some stuff they make themselves, and if Badalson  buys some stuff elsewhere, then he buys the correct stuff. I am trying to do that type restoration also, so I buy from folks who I feel confident know what is right.

So, you will pay $4.00 for the same bolt that Tom sells for $1.00?  All you have to do is ask Tom he will tell you what he has that is correct and what he has that is "the best he can find".  Lots of things that FB sells are not correct, best example is the starter heat sheild for the HEMI, alot of money for a 50% correct part.

BTW the steering coupler seals that are sold today both the orange and black ones are nowhere near correct to the originals.

Folks - we've been down this road before with YR1, Paddock, Etc. Same with sheet metal, how many think there are multiple producers of full Chally qtrs? Most of the vendors are resellers not original sources. Like FY1 RT SE said above, Frank B. buys many fasteners from Tom @ R/T Specialties. If you want to buy from Frank, great.  AMK, on the other hand, is another producer/wholesaler of fasteners. I believe they are responsible for getting most of the "engine bolts/fastener" kits redone. Soon you will see Totally Auto begin to offer 70 Challenger headlight bezels, if you want to pay his mark-up, jump on it, otherwise do a little research and buy it from the producer, MCB Performance Center.  Then you'll have saved 50% to buy something else you need! ;)

Problem is knowing who sells "the right stuff". I wish there was a list.
