Here's a wierd question:  Do you think that a late production '70 'Cuda could've come with the '71 'Cuda gilled fenders so that it looks like that?

No I don't think so.    Maybe a early model 72 using left over parts.

That's what I was thining 4C, Maybe an early 72 model.  I don't think the 70 looks bad with the gills, but I do think they fit better on a 71.

The fenders are made different in 71 because of the dual headlamp setup in each fender. The headlamp insert is different than a 70 or a 72. I'm not talking about the bolt in piece, I'm talking about the welded piece. In addition, the 72 has a different side marker. What I'm saying is... no gills in 70 or 72... period.
When I built my wife's 73, she had to have gills like my 71.  She says jump...I say how high?

I think they look good on the 70 and your wifes car. Maybe it's too much green (bumper, grille) that looks a little weird.

It looks a lot better in person. It took best of show at Branson, beating over 500 cars. It's fuel injected and has an o/d tranny. Runs like a bat out of hell and gets 25 mpg. Oh yeah...it has cruise control, A/C and overhead console with temp and direction (compass). We drove it 500 miles round trip to Branson on it's maiden voyage.

It would be a 71 only thing as these were not just parts that were laying around.
Looks good with the luggage rack too, but I personally thing the gills look silly.

MMMM, A/C, C/C, modern do-dads.

I think the car looks great.  The 70 grill is my personal favorite.  The single headlights have always said Cuda to me.  I don't have a significant opinion on the gills though.  I like it both ways.

I have heard people talk about "stamping" the fenders. I have also seen the patch kits with the gills in them. Which is better or cheaper. I'd like to add gills to my car. Sal

If you can have them punched, it's a lot better. I've installed two sets of the patch panels and they are a pregnant dog to get right. They are so close to the top edge and to the body line that it's difficult to get everything looking as it should. Also, the patch panels aren't punched out all that well to begin with. I think that you can get your fenders punched for around $400 for the pair, but the problem is getting them to the guy to have it done. There's a couple of guys doing it now and I can't remember either one of them right now. I'm sure someone on here can tell you who and where.
If you decide to go the patch panel route, at least you don't have to spend lots of time and money getting the fenders to the guy to punch them. P and G Classics has the patch panels and gills now and they're a lot cheaper than the other guy. Before you install them, you might want to cut the panels down a little all of the way around so that you can stay away from the body lines and the rear edge of the fender. Don't overlap them, they're easier to work if they're butt welded in. Tack weld them in every other inch or so and keep the welds cool as you go. After you have them welded in use J B weld for the initial fill. It will have to sit over night to fully cure. The reason for this is that the J B Weld doesn't shrink. You will have to grind the J B Weld down and then you can skim coat it with polyester putty coat. The first set that I did using regular filler sat for several months before I had a chance to paint the car and it still shrank around the weld area. I learned my lesson and now I use J B Weld anywhere I don't want shrinkage. All of the resto shops around here use this method of filling.
Have fun.

Nice job! If anyone out there knows who is punching out the fenders, please let me know. If they are close to me that may be the route to take. The patch panels on your car look really nice though, having it done locally whille on the car is a big plus.
