Please post some undercarriage pics......
« on: October 29, 2005 - 06:47:21 PM »
I am thinking of going the final level on my restoration.      I may have access to a rottisserie and thinking of stripping the complete underside and going back with paint the same color as my car.    I just not sure.   Any chance of someone sending me the results of what they did.    I am looking at several options as to how I may do this.......go back with same color, go back with black or a deep gray.     Perhaps I am looking for inspiration.......I dunno.    But for those of you who went the full boat post some pics please........
thanks..........     Kevin    gomango

Here's some pics of my unfinished underbody. (suspension to be painted and such)  I am obviously keeping the underbody painted, but I am thinking I'll put undercoating in the wheel wells just to make sure I don't nick up the paint and ultimately begin trapping rust within the housings.

GoMango, I actually had one of my friend's father paint it for me.  He's been in the auto collision and refinishing business for nearly 30 years, so he was the only person I trusted to do my major body work repairs and painting. (that and he gave me a lower labor rate.)  I didn't even have the car on a rotissorie; I kept all the suspension components on so they just jacked it up as high as their jackstands would go and started painting.  I think the quality turned out great given his oldest son who did most of the work was laying down spraying up onto the car.

Great photos Rev. I went the same way as Rev  (but black) with some rubber compound and noise insulator, haven't found out exactly what they used yet but all I know is she is built tough and ready for road action. I didn't see the point in painting body color as although it's "correct" it won't last long with the amount of driving my Challenger will see. OK if your going for mirrors and show classes and if it doesn't get much road use but  after a few months of solid driving stone chips and road debris really start to chip away at that once nice body color, black hides it and protects it.

Wish I had some photos but nothing at the moment, will get some soon"ish". lol

VEry nice pics Rev, you too Rev,   I am getting ideas of how I want to do mine underneath (providing I decide to do so).    I really love a well detailed ride with the nuts and bolts plated and everything looking in place.    I plan on doing a plating, some powdercoating, some probably not absolutely correct.   I am thinking I will go with the body color on the underside cause I do know my car won' t see more than 2000 miles a year.    Then if rock chips appear I can always undercoat later on........     Anyone else who has detailed their undercarriage please post.........   we would all like to see and appreciate your efforts.
