'Ole Yeller is starting to get out more again... Pictures
« on: October 29, 2005 - 08:05:26 PM »
After several years of mostly being stored, my 440-6 'Cuda "Ole Yeller" is getting out more.  I took it to a Sonic cruise this afternoon, and on the way there I took these pictures at the local Fire Station...

I restored Ole Yeller over 20 years ago, it was my first restoration... I have driven it to hundreds of shows, including out of state meets.

Thanks everyone... 'Ole Yeller and me go waaaaay back, bought the 'Cuda in 1981 for $500... running, drove it home.  'Ole Yeller has an interesting history, including a 3 year stay in Germany with the US Army soldier that took her there and back.  I wish I had pictures of the car in Germany, I do have all the shipping documents and other paperwork for the car... the previous owner kept every scrap of paper on the car.  He says he can't find any pictures of the car in Germany, but soon I will try contacting him again.  Last time I gave him several pictures of the restored 'Cuda to him, not sure if that was a good idea or not...

Below is a picture as I found the car and made the deal for it in front of the owner's house.  I then had to wait about 6 weeks until the guy's son graduated from high school.  Seems his dad wasn't too happy with his son for tagging a Ford LTD with the 'Cuda, or his insistance on not going to college... he just wanted to "hang out" for a while and think about what he was going to do with his life.  His dad thought that taking away the loaner 'Cuda would help his son think more clearly...

On the designated day I called the father, and was happy to hear that the deal would go through...  On the way to the apartment complex that I lived in at the time, I removed a lot of special trim items from the car and left them for the City of San Antonio Sanitation Department to pick up... filled up a 55 gallon drum with carpet, mud flaps, curb feelers, etc.  The second picture shows the 'Cuda at the apartment complex a few minutes after I arrived the day I bought the car.
