    But, at least it was by a Dodge....


    Was stopped at a stoplight, and the kid in this Stratus R/T next to me said "Nice car", and started throwing revs.  Of course, I rev back, and, when the light turns green, we both hit it.  That damn thing was faster than I was. :shocked:  I know my tired ol 273 isn't a powerhouse, but I didn't think I would lose by as much as I did.  Oh well, at least it was a Dodge, and, this told me that my engine needs a rebuild as soon as I can get one.....

    Thats alright man. You have a much cooler car than a STRATUS if its faster or not. My buddys van (warlock1 off moparts) embarrases a lotta people with his mid 14sec beatup dodge van lol.  You'll get it there, all in time. I drove around my sorry stock 318 for awhile, since i rebuilt the motor i gotta itch to go a little faster.....i now have a turbo in my garage lookin to go on lol.

    That lil 273 can be made to run.  :D Hell change the gearing in it and you'll think you gotta new motor ; )

    Well Ghost . . . at least your not too embarressed to talk about it!  Ain't nobody wins them all!  NOBODY!    Keep at it!! 


    Hopalong . . . where are you located as I am looking for a block to build up for the hardtop this winter as I plan on pulling the original 340 out and putting in something I can destroy!!  lol   Like maybe an old truck 360??    Members really should have a location in their profile,even if its just the state or area, since I see alot of people that have to ask all the time!

    I'd like a bigger engine, but most of my money is getting saved up for rust repair, and paying off the loan I took out to buy this car.

     Well pound for pound they might weigh close to the same.
     His V6 probably rated at 200+HP net
     Your 273 rated at 210 gross [ estimate]
     He's got weight over the driven wheels.
     Stratus probably has more gears also , so his first and second gear would be steeper than 904 auto [?]

    Heck yeah,pay off the loan first !

    Unless the 273 is a commando motor it's rated at 180HP gross (230 for the ccommando) which would be about 140-150 net so you are giving up a big chunk of power to the Stratus.

    Now if you would really like to be embrassed by a small econo box you don't want to try my wife in her turbo PT Cruiser. 220HP and 240 ft-lbs of torque and the trorque curve is esentially flat from 2000 rpm to redline. :)

    She really let the wind out of the sails of a guy with a Hemi RAM Quad Cab 4x4 (probally a 6000lb vehicle, he should have known better) with a cat back exahust that was reving his engine next to her at a light one day. Dusted him by over a car length across the intersection when the light turned green. ;)

    Engine is the original 273-2, never been rebuilt.  Stock rated at 180 hp, 260 tq.  With it's age, I'd say its got about 160-70 hp, then factor in the drivetrain loss....  Still, though, I didn't think those cars were that strong.

    Ghost, that little 273 put up a good fight for being an older engine in need of a rebuild.  I probably would have had the same problem with my 318.... I didn't want to be spanked, so that is why I budgeted for my 340 to build into a nasty street brawler.  I wanted to keep the small block's weight and keep it with an engine that was actually available in that year for a Chall, so the 340 fitted the bill just right......It's not my car's original engine, so I'm not afraid to go crazy with the build-up, either.

    I don't want a strip-only car.  I want a street cruiser, with a small block.  Within 5 years, she should have a 340, and maybe a 4 speed.....
