We recently got a '74 challenger, with a swapped 360 eninge

now, I'm not too fermillyer with these old cars, so i had a few questions as to whether these odditys werte just the car, or if they need fixing

Number 1, the transmission CLUNKS at low speeds, i mean like snap your head back jerking.

is that normal?

Also, the shifter takes some force to get it out of park.

Is this also normal?

If these require attention, please let me know, thank you

I would say that those do require attention for a qualified transmission person.  Not normal to my knowledge?

#1 - Someone might have installed a shift kit. By 'clunk", do you mean this is something you just feel, or do you hear it too?

#2- No. I'll assume you have a console shifter, so it might just be an adjustment.

It is not audible, but definately is feelable

It only really happens while cruising at low speeds though, which is why i thought it might just be a characteristic of the car.

thanks for the help, everyone

Maybe your kickdown linkage needs adjusting??

Since you "clunk" at low speeds, I'd say you have a shift kit. It takes a while to get used to, but it saves wear and tear on the tranny, believe it or not. They are adjustable, so maybe someone got too crazy with it? In any case, what the shift kit does is delay the upshift until to reach a certain RPM. In my car, I think I have to get to 1500 before it goes into second.
