Donor cars
« on: November 05, 2005 - 11:13:14 AM »
It seams of late many folks have been asking about donor cars to get parts from or leting cars go that will be used as donors. You also can find Challenger and Cudas that are just parts cars. I just sold a tail end of a 70 Challenger that I got when I bought my car as an extra and that car was taken for parts. Just an un official poll.

How many Challengers or Cudas and what year and models do you know of that have  gone to the great car lot in the sky?

These belong to a guy I know, there is a Challenger (as well as a Dart GTS) at the end of the row.  The '71 is already sold :(.  He also has 2 '73s back in the woods.

When I get the Charger I will do a study on the cowl parts. I bet they are the same on E-bodies and late B-bodies......

I too am responsible for the death of several Mopars and even one of them was a E-body Plymouth
Let me say I am sorry and that I was young and they were cheap
Did I ever tell the story of the '73 Charger painted up like a Petty race car?   It's very sad indeed

The '73's are parts cars, I am pretty sure they both had the cowl & firewall, but I don't know what kind of shape they are in.

Forgive me all, for I have, in the past, removed a couple of Challengers and finished off a 73 Cuda from the car world....But as it was not in vain nor in hatred....for these cars have helped out so that others may once again live!

I couldn't even give away the shell of the 70 Challenger, so I had no choice but to (gulp) cut it up.....(gasp)
I took almost all that I could have taken from it....I got it given to me as a nearly stripped out shell....I found more to use!

I bought a 72 Challenger that was in a really bad front end collision in the early 80's.....The guy that I bought it from, was moving around his yard with his bucket loader, so what was still good years ago, was severly damaged while he was moving it around......I bought it and parted it out....kept some parts and made some $$ also.....

The 73 Cuda was half way stripped when I got it.....I just finished it off.....though the tub is making the trip down the highway back to Michigan.....gonna use it to restore the 72 340 4 speed car that is down there....the tub has no rust in the cowl section at all, the windshield area has surface rust and the floors are great!

My hope is that with all that I have sacrificed, that by using the parts from these cars, that I will atone for my sins against the Ebody gods!

I haven't personally parted a car yet, but I do know of one '70 318 Challenger that was bought mostly stripped already by one of my neighbors.  He took some parts for his '71 R/T project and mine received some sheetmetal where mine was severly damaged due to weird experiments done in its past life.  I'll let the photos show you what I mean.  Since these photos, it sat for another year before he finally decided it was completely stripped of anything worth saving, so it finally made its way to the local crusher.

I parted two Barracudas, the first one was a `74 318 car that I bought for parts and had already been pretty well stripped. It had all the usual rust along with the front edge of the roof rotted away. The other one was a `69 fastback, originally a 318 3 or 4 spd that I was going to restore but once I got underneath it I realized the only thing keeping it from breaking in half was the 1/2" thick undercoating hiding all the rust.It also had major rust holes in the front frame rails and was just too far gone even for me!I also parted out my dads poor old 250,000 mile /6 `73 Duster b/c of rust,a `74 Dart Sport winter beater and a `69 Fury wagon for it`s 8 3/4 rear. All cars were stripped clean of anything worth saving and were sacrificed to save others.I now have a `70 Satellite I am going to use for parts for my `70 road runner.

Just among the ones that have answered this thread a couple hand fulls of cars have been removed from circulation so that others could ride again.

It just make me think that there are way fewer cars ( Cudas and Challengers) out there than we think that are still on the road and the really rare car in he future willl be the base models that always gets the hook to save others.
