Another Member's Old Car (Lemon_Twist)
« on: November 08, 2005 - 07:18:44 PM »
I just found out that a '71 Challenger R/T one of my neighbors own used to be a fellow board member's car when he still lived near the UP of MI.  What a small world!  He's some badly taken shots of the Challenger R/T in question. (for some reason the camera's being white-washed.)

Very cool!  Who's car was it?  Does it still look like that or is it now being worked on?

Rev, this is the way it currently looks.  My neighbor (friend's dad) and the guy who did my bodywork owns this car.  As for the board member who used to own it, his screen name is Lemon_Twist (from Alaska) and as it also turns out, he's a cousin of one of my friends back home, too!  (lived about 45 minutes from me.)

I originally bought that 71 Challenger RT as a parts car for my 71 RoadRunner.....I paid $100 for it, and $100 for a spare 383 that went along with the car. I needed a motor/tranny for the RoadRunner, so I bought the Challenger from my, at the time, bus driver.

He had bought the car from a guy that I guess had wrecked the Challenger sometime in the 70's.....he sold it to my bus driver, then he to me. It had alot of rust and plastic in it when I got it....but I felt that it was too good of a car to strip.....I got it roadworthy, and drove it, it was this car that helped me to fall in love with E Bodies!

Those front rims that are on there came from a 69 Charger RT/SE that I bought from someone in a neighboring town....The idiots that I bought it from didn't put the lugnuts on the wheels all the way. We towed the car about 10 miles behind my dads truck, until I realized that the wheels were coming loose. I ended up completely ruining two rims by almost losing all the lugnuts......all wheels were damaged, but the two that are up front were the only two that were most salvageable.....I had put some 14"x 8" baby moons on the rear of it at the time too....

The rot on the car was getting worse, as I didnt have the time or cash to do anything with it.....I sold it in 94-95 timeframe.....$2500.00 I wanted someone to do something with it other than tear it up or cut it up....One guy bought it and supposedly took it to Indiana, but then brought back up to the Wisconsin/Michigan area and resold it....I still have the numbers matching 383 and the tranny that came from the car. I will use them in one of my Cudas....if the current owner doesn't want them. Pics soon to come!

Maybe I'll take a run to his now old body shop (long story involving the county shutting it down on him after just a year in the new location with a NEW building!!!) and take some pics during my Thanksgiving Vacation. (provided there's no snow up to the windows by that time.) =-/
