Smokin Stangs
« on: November 15, 2005 - 09:46:43 AM »
The night before i was to head up to the drag track i met up with a late 80's mustang an a local autozone. We talked for a bit i asked him what it had, he dropped in a 351 said it dyno'd 372 to the rear wheels. I asked him if he wanted to race and of course being a mustang driver he's got the fastest car in 7 counties. We drove up to a local "racing" spot and i murdered him :) we where pretty close taking off. Both of us tapping the gas trying not to obliterate are tires. As soon as i coud grab traction i was gone. i topped out real quick with the 727 4.10 combo. When i looked back i had about 15 cars on him. He then proceeded to do the ricer fly-by and hit is hazards :(

The next day at the track i took 3 runs. 2 of them where mustangs they both lost (i  have video but i can't get it online) The third was a straight drag car even though he would have killed me i still beat him cause he hit his brakes and let off :)

73BB,
I love the smell of frying Mustangs.  Some guys never learn. You'd think that if you had 15 lengths on him he would figure out that you are much faster.  I know that if someone pulls my '69 by 15 lengths, I would let off and tip my hat to them.  Some folks just can't take defeat and will try and save face.  The only thing a flasher fly by does is make them look clueless.............Oldschool

Well done!! 15 car lengths seems a little exaggerated though. lol That's 225ft........with 4:10's and reaching max rpm.
Not saying your lying but any car with 372wrhp wouldn't be left that far behind.

What times is your challenger pulling? The Mustang must be running around mid 12's at least, so you Challenger must be low 11's?

yeah your right now that i think of it in feet it probably wasn't that far, Probably more like 10 cars about 150 feet.

i haven't had the chance to run my car 1/4 mile I did run 1/8 mile however, I was pulling low low 8's. I"m confidant i could put into the 7's my car wasn't tuned at all when i went to the track. 1/4 i'd assume to be a low to mid 12 without the bottle mid 11's with it.

My car is basically a daily driver and the engine isn't built up much at all. i have a small 484/484 lift cam, highrise intake, Demon 850 carb, headers, some mild head work, probably with about 8-8.5 compression, and a 2k stall. I dyno'd 270 hp 450+ ft lbs (guy messed up on my chart) I still don't know if those numbers are correct as other people that where there were all *****ing about the numbers being off.

Hello,
I have a story about a mustang, I was in a 2002 porsche 911 twin turbo, not mine a customers when i worked in denver...well any way im crusing down I25 going towards colorado springs im doing around 120 and a early 90s mustand comes flying up, well im in 5th and its a 6 speed and i see he wants to toy around so i kick it in the a** and im just under 160 and i hit the brakes and slowed her back down to 120... the kid pass me and i see him going by looking in his rear view mirror...in the mean time he watching me...  the interstate curves he catches the gravel in the median and loses it, So i slam on the binders and drive up to were he was & all i seen was dust no car!, I see marks were he rolled it but no car... the guy landed back on the wheels and took off.... I figured i would just take off because all the people i went flying by at 160 were starting to pull up and thats the last thing i need was to lose my job so i dropped it off and got a 50.00 tip... i just smiled and said i really unnessiarie.

There are Mustangs out there that can do it.  Redline and I saw one at the Marietta Car show last Saturday. It looked like a Pro-Mod car.  Some kind of HUGE motor with a HUGE blower, and a multi stage Nitrous system. That car probably goes in the 7's in the quarter.  It had wheelie bars, parachute, and the front end was fiberglass with painted on headlights and grill. One thing we did notice was that it was towed in and not driven.  Redline may have some pics of it.  Hopefully I can keep the Stangs in the rear view mirror, but if not, I will let ya'll know that too...............Oldschool
