pics of your trunk, whats it supose to look like
« on: November 15, 2005 - 02:25:25 PM »
i cleaned out the trunk on the car i just bought and it looks like its missing the backing on the rear seats.

is that how it is suppose to look or is there a peice of material that goes there.

also where do you mount the spare?

There is supposed to be a divider panel between the seats and trunk. My car was missing that too. Year One carries them for sure. The rear window leaks, and these cardboard dividers turn to mush. That might of happened to yours. As for the spare, there should be a place not all that far behind the seats that a hook-like thingie goes into to bolt down your spare. Sorry, I have no pics handy here. It's in the center.

well huh, i knew there had to be something that goes there, just seeing that cross bracing and the cushion didnt look finished to me

and for the spare do you mean the spot in the middle where the metal come together to make a seam like thing that looks like something is supose to go there.

i wish i had a pic of mine handy but the car went in for an engine rebuild/overhaulin yesterday and i wont ahve it back till next friday

You will see the bracing either way.  However, there should be the padding behind the rear seat, between the seat back and V brace.  I don't have a photo of it all assembled other than the original photo I already posted, so you'll have to wait for someone else to post a photo of what it should look like after a restoration.

Sorry about not explaining how the wheel assembly mounts in there, Lemurfart. (I was on my way out.)  Jeff provided a great photo for that as I don't really know what the fasteners are supposed to look like because mine were missing when I got the car.  The jack mounts to the left hand side of the car, just above the driver's side trunk extenstion panel.  There should be mounts on the car where the jack slides into.

I just realized the top or further forward hole in the bracket is for a space saver and the lower hole is for mounting a full size spare.

You can find them on E-Bay once in a while. The 72-74 jacks are reasonable. The 70-71's are $$$.
