Space saver spare questions.
« on: November 16, 2005 - 05:15:16 AM »
I`d like to find a space saver to replace my full size spare and have a few questions.I`m not too concerned about a correct part#,just something that doesn`t look out of place and would work in an pinch. What other vehicles should I look for when junkyarding for one?Anyone know if replacemnet tires were or are availible?I see a couple on e-bay part # 2944250 for `70-71 cars, are there other part #`s and was `70-71 the only years they were availible?

I believe the B-bodies might of had the space-saver option too. I'm not sure if 70 or 71 was the last year for them. I have one I'm probably not going to do anything with if you are interested.

Original/REAL 70-71 SS did not have a part number on them.  The 250 wheel is a later 75-77 wheel.  Also, 70-71 SS will have BFG tires on them.

If you snag one out of an AMC the bolt pattern will work. AMC also painted one side orange and the other black on the rim for some reason.
Aren't the space savers pretty hard to come by? I know I've seen some pretty crazy prices on the 'bay, then you'll have to track down the little air can too.

Mine has a Good Year tire. It is indeed a "250". I have the Year One reproduction cannister for it, and the bracket that holds the can on top of the tire. I just haven't located where I forgot I hid it yet(LOL).
