Scat Pack

Just for clearification,
What made a true Scat Pack car. My understanding was that it was a 440+6, 4 speed, 4.10:1 dana. I am just curious so that I dont look dumb if I say that and am incorrect.

Not sure what all the criteria was,think it was different for each car but a certain 340 dart was also a scatpack car,so the Big Block Theory must be incorrect.I guess the same question should be asked for the plymouth rapid transite system.Anyone know???

In 1968 the Scat Pack cars consisted of
1968 Charger R/T
1968 Dart GTS
1968 Coronet R/T
mid year the Super Bee came in and was added to the Scat Pack

In 1969 the cars were

Dart GTS
Dart Swinger
Coronet R/T
Coronet Super Bee
Charger R/T
Charger 500
mid year the Daytona and 6 pack bee were added

In 1970 the GTS was gone
Dart 340
Challenger R/T (383,440,426)
Challenger 340
Coronet R/T
Coronet Super Bee
Charger R/T
mid year Challenger T/A was added

1971 had
Charger R/T
Charger Super Bee
Challenger R/T
Demon 340

1972 was the last and had
Charger Rallye
Challenger Rallye
Demon 340

The Scat Pack also help performance clins with the likes of Dick Landy and other to help the guys make their street cars, and weekend warriors run harder. It also help the performance network of parts that later became Direct Connection, and then Mopar Performance. Scat Pack also had a clothing line and some toys and collector stuff. There is still stuff on eGouge from time to time

Plymouth's counterpart was the Rapid Transit System.

It would have to be a dodge to be in the scat pack and a plymouth for the rapid transit system. I pretty sure that transmission and rearend ratios didnt designate if they were part of the scat pack, it was mostly the engine that did. All the R/Ts were part of it and a few non R/T were too, which were all 340 cars. Basically if it was fast or had a big engine, than it was part of the systems......even the big Furys were part plymouth's rapid transit system.......

there has to be some kind of stipulations to it. otherwise all of those cars would have come from factory with the bee in the window. that is what signified the true scat pack cars. if anyone knows anything else please pass the word around.

Read my post - those were the cars in the Scat Pack. The high performance models were part of the Pack - the parts and merchandising was the rest.

Have you seen any literature that says '72 is in the Scat Pack?  I thought it was just up to '71.  If so that would be cool.  I didn't think my Rallye was included.

Here is one for the 1970 cars, the T/A was added later as mentioned. If I recall correctly, the cars had to be capable of running the quarter mile in the 14s to be in the "scat pack".

My AAR did not have a RTS sticker on it when I bought it 9 years ago and am wondering if it should have one on it.  Did all Dodge and Plymouths that were members of Scat Pack or Rapid Transit System come with the sticker or not?  Also, what was the proper placement of it?

According to my fender tag my 70 340 Challenger was equipped with the series 70 package which included the scat pack stickers but was a stripe delete non R/T.

Hamtramck Historical has an excellent library of vintage advertising.  "The cars with the bumblebee stripe" slogan shows up a lot in the 1968 & 69 advertising.  By 1970 the slogan is not showing up, although the Scat Pack continued.  In 1968 all the cars were available with bumblebee stripes.  By 1971 the bumblebee stripe had been replaced with new stripes.
