Great article.  Thanks for sharing!

Those are cool articles!!  Thanks for sharing them as I really only saw the clay molded Challenger in one of my MoPar books and the literature was all about how it was originally going to be used as a car to compete against the Mercury Cougar.

Several years ago I read an article about the 70 cuda design. The guy that drew the final drawings didn't see the final product until just before production began. He got very upset when he saw the final sheet metal and said that the body line wasn't supposed to be there and that it was meant to be a shadow line only. I personally think that the body line looks good.
They also mentioned that they had to use every styling trick in the book to make the car look smaller. From wrapping the sides in closer at the bottom to blacking out the rocker areas. They had to tuck in the sheet metal at a sharper than normal angle in the front and rear valance areas. They said that the original design looked extremely large and bulky. I think the car turned out great.

Thanks for posting the article, I will try to get a copy of the issue...

Fred Schimmel is the guy I mentioned in another post that used to display some of his concept drawings and those of other designers that he worked with back then.  I talked to him about getting the sketches printed or published in a book, but never followed up with him due to a new job that took ALL my time.  Its great to see some of his sketches did get published... sort of.  Reprints or a dedicated book would be better, I hope it happens eventually...

Here are a few pictures that I took of his sketches during one of the shows he attended:
