Which engine combo and why such a difference?
« on: November 22, 2005 - 12:15:56 PM »
I want to build a streetable 440. I don't understand why these two motors have such a h.p. difference. Also, they both claim to be streetable, with all the knowledge on this website, which one would you run.

http://moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/mopp_0505_440_part2/  :this one isn't even a stroker. I believe they got the hp. up to 635. (this is only part 2 but I know you mopar nuts are subscribed and have read part 3)

http://speedomotive.com/MOPAR%20MUSCLE%20MAG.%20500%20CID.htm : 500 ci. stroker with 585 hp.

And if anybody has alot of E-bay experience, what guesstimates on prices would you give. Thanks to everybody for this site. Its good to have a place to turn to for questions.

I dont think the 440 "446" is really too streetable IMHO.It is running 13.5 to 1 compression. The stroker is running 10.1 to 1. I am sure there is more but, I know when i was reading the mag i had been following that "mild manner" build to get some ideas and then the last one i read they threw the 13.5 to 1 compression out there.

13.5 to 1 compression. Yikes!!! Have fun getting fuel with high enough octane for that baby. I don't think the word streetable applies.

I don't think this engine had 13 to 1. I would of red flagged it if it did. I remember the 360 they built as having that high of compression.

i found the magazine that had the dyno results. october 2005 issue page 29. last paragraph on the page "Wtih the bottom end already built the smaller 78cc chamber of the Indy head shot the compression ratio of our combo way up - to no less than a full 13:1." They did say that they did not intend the motor to run on pump gas by itself," but it would very likley work with water or water/alcohol injection".
Hope this helps...
