I was hoping for a quick explanation as to what the differences are.� I thought I knew but talking with a friend regarding this I am now uncertain.� What did the "Grand Coupe" bring to the table?� Engine options?

i think that the grand coupe was just interior stuff, overhead console, stuff like that. the luxury model. as far as i know it didnt come with any performance motors but was available with the 383 2bbl and 360 2bbl. could be wrong though.

It was interior stuff like leather seats and bells and whistles,BUT there was one option for a performance motor a 383-4 super commando 330 horse,I should know since I have a numbers matching one::+).They never came with a 360 since they were only made in 70@71 and the 360 wasnt available until 74,most were 318 cars,mine is one of 674 with a 383hp,havent narrowed the rarity with the other options I have like rally guages and the paint scheme.Most were cloned in the past into Cuda's so there arent many numbers cars left

my mistake. forgot that my buddy took the 318 out of his. still has the 318 but not in the car. didnt know they came with the 383 hp engine. can always learn something new

The 70 gran coupe had a black grille that was identical to the AAR grille other than the trim. I still have a couple of those in storage. They also had a different rocker molding and a lock escucheon (trim) around the trunk lid lock cylinder. They had a hard headliner, overhead console, an extra switch at the door opening for the o/h console, seat trim inserts, woodgrain dash bezel on the standard dash cluster, woodgrain inserts on the door trim panels, trim on the deck lid and quarter panels ends and of course the gran coupe emblems on the door trim panels. I converted my 71 318 gran coupe into a shaker hood 340 4-speed cuda, but still have a complete 70 gran coupe in storage. May leave it as a gran coupe when restored since they're starting to ba little more collectible.

So....
1970 Model Year
Barracuda - 6 Cyl, 318 and 383
Grand Coupe - was an interior upgrade or "Luxary Items"
Cuda - Performance options - 340, 383, 440, 440 + 6, 426 HEMI
AAR - mid year and unique - 340 + 6 with spoiler and appearence options
What is the signifcance of the red stripe on the grill?

You could get a 340 4 bbl in a Barracuda or Gran Coupe...largest engine available was the 383 4 bbl in those cars.

The AAR's and T/A's had lots of unique items on them....block had bosses for 4 bolt mains, first small block with J heads and adjustable rocker arms, side exit exhaust. First car from detroit with diff size front and rear tires (E-60-15 front, G-60-15 rear) Rear spoiler was unique to trans am cars. Only e-body with rear mounted antenna.

Barracuda- entry level Plymouth E-body (slant 6 to 383)
Cuda - performance version (340,383,440-4,440-6, hemi)
Gran Coupe - luxury version (slant 6,318,383)

I have owned at least one of each and more than one in most cases. I really loved the GC that I had. It was a white with a black vynyl top and black interior. It was a 318 car and a 904 trans. Had to rebuild trans several times as I was not easy on it. Traded it right before I got married. Wish I hadn't traded it. The gas tank was leaking and did not want to change it at the time and it did not have A/C on it. O well if we only had hind site in advance.

I would think the desireablility factor would be
Barracuda
Gran Coupe
then Cuda
Of course ALOT has to do with the engine and other options,like for instance I would rather own a BB barracuda or GC than a small block Cuda(Unless it was a 340-6,but then i would still have to think about it),but thats just me

the GC also had rear ash trays and the exterior rear glass trim was black with a vinyl-like grain stamped into it, I guess to make the back glass look smaller.

Not sure about 70, but in 71 many hi performance parts could be ordered on the GC. My 71 Gran Coupe has the Hi Perf 383 4 bbl, the HD 727, the 8 3/4 posi rear, the rally gauges, special Rally susoension, swaay bars, power steering, power brakes.....the list goes on and on. I have heard two opinions on my car (1 of 79). One is that perhaps an older man wanted the luxuries and also the hi performance Cuda stuff, so he ordered the best of both worlds. The second opinion is that with the way insurance companies were treating the muscle cars with the high premiums, someone ordered a Cuda in sheep's clothing. It has many of the items found on the Cuda, but would have been under the insurance companies radar.

Cool Has more options than mine,is it a numbers car?

That's just the tip of the ice berg with the options, this car is really loaded. Unfortunately, the original block is MIA. It has a correctly dated 383 motor in it, but I cannot locate a VIN on it. It just says B 383. I'm not sure what the story on it is. Could it be a warranty block?
