the vin # indicates that it may not even be a 69 engine , what is the casting date on the block ?
the 2 indicates it was used in 72 , C is the planrt car was built at which I don`t believe chargers were built at & the last 6 digits are the sequence# , being 302 it should be a april -june built car l

this is wierd, the boss reads E440 HP and the casting number is 3698830,which indicates its a 73-78 block? How can they both be right?I can tell the boss hasnt been tampered with and why would someone anyways?I didnt think they made a 440hp in 73-78?maybe a police motor?

I guess none of it really matters since it cant ever be a numbers car, whatever i end up putting it in,i was just curious. The good things are its a steel crank,906 heads, all accessories are there and its standard bore,I was afraid it was going to be a .60 over boat anchor i just paid 400 bucks for,lol

The E means it's a cast crank motor....or at least it was when it left the plant. 830 casting is definately a later block. 66-72 steel crank motors were 430 castings.

How about a picture?
If it was a 69 engine it would have the complete VIN# as well.

Yep, they made a HP motor in '72. I just disassembled a '75 440 and it is stamped E 440 5T and it was a c-body drivetrain out of a new yorker. Some motors will also have a "T" stamped on the pad and this indicates the Trenton engine plant. The odd thing is that it has 452 heads and those supposedly didn't go into production until the 76 model year. These are definately the heads that came with the engine and are original....this thing has never been apart. That '75 block is a "630" casting, fwiw.

Yes it was 2C302005 which means it was for a 72 car,Maybe this ones a basturd also and got some stuff from 1971,need to check the 906's for a casting date along with the steel crank, might be a while to take it apart since i dont have anything to put it in at this time so it wont be rebuilt until that day comes. Its sitting in the corner of my shop awaiting a project,Maybe a dart 440 YA that would be nice. What was the past year for 906 heads???I'll try to get a pic in the next couple of days

thanks again Chyco,My best guess is all the internal stuff is from a 69 motor and the block was junked so they used a later block and put all the stuff in it,of course i wont know for sure until the day i pull it apart

If it was a 72 it would still be a steel crank motor though as that was the last year for them unless it was an HP application.
