Custom/Modified Cudas & Challengers

Heres a place that has a lot of nice custom show car Mopars www.moparx.com I DO like the sick fish.But personally If I have to see another E-Body with 20,s or 22,s slammed to the ground all aftermarket gauges,etc etc I'm gonna catch the next flight to Margaritaville.if they start with a car in really bad shape fine! otherwise why dont they limit themselves to customizing monte carlos or pick up trucks.These Mopars are the best looking cars ever built and dont need all that tacky looking custom stuff.I didnt see 1 car there as pretty and impressive as the Pink Ice I saw here.-----------What do Yall think?

Personally, I see nothing wrong with taking a 318 barracuda or challenger and doing something like this, it is far more interesting of an undertaking than someone cloning a hemi car or a six pack car (especially if they dont ackowledge it as a clone).  I like the look some acheive with the lowering, bigger tires, modern gauges etc.  I think both Rad Rides by Troy has done some amazing things to the cars they have built. And Pure Vision has made some incredible modernized muscle, they both used low option cars to do it with.  I don't like the 22's but I like the look of 17's on those cars and personally I think I lean more towards Pure Vision because it seems something the common mechanically inclined person can acheive with their own car whereas Rad Rides cars are more engineering marvels.  I consider Hammer, Poison Dart, and the Yellow Duster (furio's) are inspirations to what I want to do with the 72 swinger I picked up for $100.  I like the two tone paint jobs that you see on Overhaulin, I could do without some of the graphics they add but the pin striping is a nice touch. 

At the same time, I have a 72 challenger with a slant six and a three speed that I enjoy but that I am working on making a little updated to make it a more reliable daily driver.  I am not changing it to a v-8 car because I feel I have seen to many slants and small block cars converted to big block cars, that doesn't mean I want to see another nicely done and documented clone it just means its not my prefernce.  I would like to modernized the cars I have enough to make them reliable comfortable drivers.  But the burning question is how much of this activity will continue with e-bodies if the concept challenger becomes a reality?

If I ever get a Challenger and go through the trouble of stripping it down to bare metal and rebuilding it... you can be damn sure I'm not going to clone anything, and I sure as hell wouldn't butcher something somebody else would want to restore. I'd love to take a base model Challenger and turn it into a custom. I love the exterior of the Challengers, but I think the interior on most of them is pretty nasty. That wood grain crap should be thrown out the window. I'd rather look at black plastic. :)

Twin turbo V8 and a 5 speed would be nice. But that dream is quite a few years off, IF life doesn't get in the way before then. In a couple of years, the money won't be a problem, but I just hope I don't have a kid till I'm 30. That leaves 6 years to get something done. Time to get crackin'.

1) Get house.
2) Pay off my daily driver.
3) Plunk down for a Challenger.
4) Sink everything else into it until it's finished.

Mmmmm...

 Even though I have the old school Centerlines on my 72 Challenger, I really like the Black 72 Challenger on the top left of this link www.moparx.com  it's called ChallengerX. He's running 18x10 and 17x7 Torq Thrusts wearing Goodyear 235/40-17's up front and 295/35-18's in the rear. What I like is he's running 10" wide rims out back and an inch taller in the rear. It gives it a nice rake and It looks alot better than the 8" rims most people are running in the rear. I just wish there was some side, and rear pics of the car.
 Going with a little bigger rim can look good sometimes, but going to big and/or two narrow can just look silly.

Thank you for the compliment on our Cuda (Pink Ice).  I agree some of the rims on the Cuda's and Challenger's can be too much.  My husband built Pink Ice for me to drive and have fun in.  It started life as a 71 Barracuda with a 318.  When my husband builds these cars he usually starts with a car that nobody wants.  Usually the car is so rusted that nobody wants to restore it.  Blofish is a fine example of a car that was so rusted it was almost unrestorable.  So, we take a car that would probably have rusted to the ground and put it back on the road looking better than it ever would have.  I personally do not like the big 20" and bigger wheels for Cuda's and Challenger's.  My husband and I like a lot of sidewall.  That is why we go with the prostreet look or back to the factory look.  If the car is a rare car that would be more valuable restored than that is what we do.    I feel that everybody should just build what they like and not worry about what other people think.  When we build these cars we build what we like.  What is really neat is my husband does all of the work himself except the paint.  Everybody just remember it is your car do what you want.  Happy Thanksgiving.

I think the guy who started restoring my car had Hotwheels in mind. This is an original 71 340/4 speed Cuda. Other than the hood being raised ( and done very nicely ) the only other body modification is a frenched in antennae on the passenger rear 1/4. When I first looked at this car thought of buying it and painting it as the body was so nice. Now that I have it  woudln't change it for anything. Going to put it back together as was intended.

I totally agree. I've been looking up pictures trying to gauge at what wheel size your car begins to look retarded. Somewhere between 18 and 20 it starts to slip for me. You might be able to get away with 19s... MAYBE. :)

I don't like a lot of sidewall, especially for something you want to be able to throw into a corner with any kind of confidence. Sure, your ride suffers when you aren't driving crazy, but these things aren't really meant for comfort in the first place. My current ride (2004 Acura TL) has 17" tires all around and the ride is realy smooth. I can't imagine that 18s would be much stiffer.

Here's a black Cuda from the same site that I've been drooling over. I love the black on black look with some grey or black rims. They also happen to be 18s in the rear and 17s in the front. Except they're 18x11 & 17x8. One inch wider all around. I guess with all the extensive modification he did, he could cram a little wider tire in there. I would have too. :D

There not so big you think "hotwheel", but big enough so it has that modern look and handling. Don't get me wrong I still like the 15" old school look too, but if I decide to go with a more modern look 18 x 10 or 11 rears and 17 x 7 or maybe 8??? front in the front are what I'll be getting.
I love every car that is on that site.The only thing I would do different is put 17`s or 18`s on the cars but that`s just me,some people like the bigger wheels.
