Not sure yet. I haven't bought it yet. It is the trailer that I used to bring the car home from Wisconsin. It was pulled home by a '03 Ford F-250 Power Stroke. That truck did an excellent job.  I am trying to get this done without spending 40K on a new diesel, but I will do what I gotta do.................Oldschool

Hey Oldschool, either vehicle will work if it's set up correctly. I pulled a 7200 pound Carver boat back and forth over 300 miles each way that included a lot of mountain passes to Lake Powell with an 89 318 Ramcharger then later on with a 318 Durango. You can pull that trailer just fine with what you have if you put the hitch stabilizers on it, it makes it like one frame, gives you a lot more control. I wouldn't spend a lot if you aren't going to pull that car too often. I'd pull it to Carlisle from Utah if I had it and wouldn't worry at all as long as it was set up right. And being set up right would include some good 10 ply tires too. Gonna go coast to coast quite often, get a new Dodge cummins diesel pickup. Just my .02.

After reading the replys, I am going to have to ask you Oldschool, what were you thinking when you put that Barton Hemi in your Barracuda??
You should have got him to build you a 318 instead!!  ;)

Your right, oldschool should sell his truck, and buy a diesel or a V10.

When building a tow vehicle that will serve as a daily driver, it better to build it for the rule, and cover the exception. Fact is, most tow vehicles spend far more time without a trailer attached to their asses, than with. The truck should be set up to handle that. But, since most of the time it's being used as a car, why overbuild or over buy?

The suggestion for a built 318 is sound, in that, for the most part, the truck will give decent fuel mileage for 90% of it's use. With proper gearing, and breathing, a 318 can easily serve both applications, without the expense of a new diesel, or the ultra poor mileage of a V10.

As I stated earlier, you will not be the fastest rig on the interstate, but you will be able to maintain the speed limit +. Besides, I usually try to save the honor of being the fastest on the road for some other idiot. Being the fastest on the road usually results in being issued a citation, awarded by the state police.

The decision to put a Hemi in the car being towed, not withstanding.

Someone say HEMI!!!!!!?????

LOL!
What he said!

(OR, if you have a trailor stuck to your butt 90% of the time, like my Dually, the 318 still gets impressive economy, and has power to pull)
Gears, it is all in the gears.

Uh Oh, Nothing poor about the mileage of my V-10 or any other that I know of. Anything that has 488 C.I. and can move 6,000lbs of truck and still get 18mpg is ok in my book.

Well, I guess you got me there, I managed a fleet with sixteen V-10 Dodges, I've NEVER heard of a V10 Dodge truck getting 18 mph. Actual milage was closer to 13.2 on average. That's POOR.

You got one special truck there. SOunds like a keeper to me.
