WE DON"T NEED NO STINKIN ROTISSERIE
« on: November 26, 2005 - 12:34:21 PM »
Just to let you know you don't need a Rotisserie. It makes things easier but if you don't have one or know someone who has one you just need a jack and two stands..and some old clothes. After my car was already painted I decided to paint the bottom of it. ( Don't ask me why because 7 years later I still don't know)  So I cleaned -sandblasted-primered-painted laying on my back. The only scary part was overspray but I masked every inch of that baby first.

That saying is put to very good use in my yard, I was lucky enough to borrow a rotis & yes it does make it a much more pleasent experiance, if you can call scrapping undercoat & cleaning off rust pleasent under even the best conditions! Rich.

Good effort mate!!

I never used one either, had a dolly made, had the same treatment as a rotisserie did, just a little more arkward. lol

Now that's something you don't see every day! hehe

Looks like your end result was well worth it, though.

That's looks great, but be honest, how many days did it take before you could lift your arms up after all that stripping, and painting??? LOL

I used a SADA gun and kept the pressure at 50 lbs but did adjust the spray.
At the time I did it I was painting industrial equipment--machine--forklifts--electrical boxes and anything else the fabrication shop built so my arms where in good shape. The cleaning really wasn't that bad  being a Calif. car all it life the underneath was very clean. A little wire brush here and there and some sandblasting. That was not fun laying on the ground and blasting up over yourself I was picking sand out of my teeth-hair-ears-nose and a few other places !!! for days. The best part is I didn't even get one run !!

LMAO! I hear ya on the picking the sand out of your teeth and every other nook and cranny on your body. Looks like it was a pretty hard job but well worth all the effort. We can all learn something from this. Thanks for giving us the lesson in ingenuity!

I scraped, cleaned, welded and sprayed the cuda on my back with the car on jackstands but I`m getting too old for that so I`m biulding a rotisserie for the road runner. Will make it much easier to work on and to spray as a gravity feed gun doesn`t work very well upside down.

Very nice, JS27.  That's the same way I had mine painted underneath.  I'd say it turned out great given we didn't have it on a rotisserie.

I really know what you mean. I painted my 70 Cuda on 6 ton jack stands lying on my back on my garage floor. I would do it again as it saved me alot of money doing it myself. It turned out great but I was ready to stop painting when I got done as my arm was getting tired.
