Hey gang,
This topic surfaces every once in a while, so I assembled some of the errors that I know of and Chris at the 1970 Charger Registry contributed to this page as well. You can view the article at this link;

http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/factoryErrors.shtml

If you know of any other factory errors and you can document them  please feel free to submit them for possible use.

Thanks and T/Ake care,
Barry Washington

Those are pretty interesting, Barry.  I'll have to get a photo of my Broadcast sheet as I have found an error on mine. (at least I think it is.)  Within the "Time" heading, mine says it was 1991, which would be military time like it should be, but the '91' part isn't correct, is it?

Hey Street,
What year of car / sheet? There has been some dispute over the actual times in the boxes because the numbers in the second box vary from 01 to 99. The explanation that seems the most likely so far is ( using yours as an example) 19 91  = 19th hour of the day, 91st printing that hour.

The odd part in this theory though is that it would limit the printing to 100 sheets per hour. This was decades ago, but that seems pretty slow even for a printer.

If anyone knows for sure I would love to hear it. :-)

Barry, mine's a '73 Challenger with a 1972/1973 Series Broadcast sheet.  The 91 part had me confused because I just finished decoding my Broadcast sheet with a nice book I bought last week that has most of the known codes and good explanations for each specific year of the E-bodies.

I just remembered I had photos of my Broadcast sheet on my laptop. (first photo, Line 6)

I dont have the VIN of the car, but back in the early 90's i looked at a triple black 71 Cuda, 440-6 column auto that the VIN started VS23V1Bxxxxxx. The guy had paperwork from Ma Mopar that stated it was a VIN "misstrike" that got thru. The fender tag read BS if i remember correctly, only the VIN plate itself was mistruck. I passed on it...the $$???    5500 firm, needed resto but was all there. No billboard on it, dont remember if it was a billboard car or not. Oh, the title read like the VIN plate...
VS23V1B

Hey Street,
You have one of the unusual red printed sheets, I have only seen a few of them so far. If you do not know why it was printed in red let me know and I will explain it.

Hemi 71, I would love to see that! Another "easy" typo, the V an B are side by side on the keyboard.

T/Ake care,
Barry

I was wondering why my full sheet that was under the rear seat frame was printed in red and the second partial sheet was in black.  If you don't mind posting the explanation under this thread rather than a PM, I'd like to hear about it. (since I'm sure others would enjoy the explanation, too.)

Hey Street,
It is quite simple really. Broadcast sheets were printed two at a time with a carbon paper between them. Carbon paper rolls had red at the end so the folks new the paper needed to be changed soon. Some credit card machines and cash registers still use the same basic system today, but it has evolved to a red stripe on the register tape end roll instead of red carbon paper.

T/Ake care,
Barry

Hey Alaska T/A thanks for the info, cool site.  :bananasmi . Does anyone know of a good book I can buy to help decoding fender tags. I seen a few places online that you can punch in the fender tag codes, but it would be nice to have something I can take with me if I go to look at a car. I know I decoded a few fender tags and I get codes that say "unknow at this time" is this common as well?.  The codes were on the fender tag of a 71 Challenger, code was N98 and V5X.

Thanks.
ps. something I can buy at a bookstore or ebay would be ideal.

Dont know of a book...   that would be cool.

By the way

N98      71 only      Exhaust Emissions Standards Label
V5X      69-71      Body Side Molding - White

I have fender tag decoder software that works with a PALM Pilot if you have one
also an excel spreadsheet works nice in a Pocket PC
