Grill trim question...
« on: November 28, 2005 - 04:20:00 AM »
Okay brainiacs!

For a 1970 'Cuda, what was the trim in the center (bars section) of the grille?  Was it the "red bars" currently being reproduced?  If so, what models of Barracuda or Cuda came with no trim, just black bars, and what models came with the rectangular chrome trim instead of red bars?

For some reason I thought it was:

1 - Cudas got red bars.
2 - Barracudas got no bars.
3 - Gran Coupes got silver rectangles.

Is this right?  And, for bonus points, is the basic grille all one piece that the various trims can attach to, or was there a special Cuda vs Barracuda grille?

Just making sure before I buy the wrong trim bits!  Thanks in advance...

I think the silver rectangle trim came on the AAR only.

The center section of the grill is all one piece and the same.  The two trim pieces it takes are different.

I'm personally curious about the colors though and know the AAR is black but am unsure if the Cuda is supposed to be dark argent whereas the rest are light.  I painted my 'Cuda grill light because that's how it looked but wonder if there is a hard rule or not on what should be dark.  The textured argent spray paint from Penstar is really very good and I went ahead and used it on my shark gill rockers and valance insert and it has held up well.
