    What are these coil springs doing on the rear of my car?

    I got to  visit my car sunday and I took a few pics. I noticed these coil springs mounted on my car and I have owned quite a few mopars and this is the first I have seen these. My question is  basically: Why would someone put these on a Challenger? Picture is attached so you can see what I am mentioning

    They are booster/helper springs.  Someone probably added them to compensate for the worn out leafs :screwy:, or thought they would the car launch/handle better :nono:.  Take them off, throw them away.  If your leafs are sagging, get them re-arched, or replace them.  Shops that service semi trucks should be able to re-arch them for you.

    Thanks, I was thinking the same about removing them. I am going to look into a set of heavier leaf springs. Any suggestions ? Brands?
    I did buy this car from a Chebbie guy so maybe that explains the coil springs!!!  :walkaway: :screwy:

    I have never seen that before. What engine do you have? If you have a big block, then judging from your pictures, you have springs that need another leaf. Espo makes after-marker springs. I recently bought a set with a 2 inch above stock height. I love them. I love not haveing air-shocks or a harsh ride.  :bananasmi :bananasmi :bananasmi

    Mike, the Challenger was a factory 318 3speed car but it now has a 440  with a 727 auto

    You gotta give the guy that did that some credit. LOL it actually looks like they are in there to stay. Just out of curiousity, how does the car ride?

    AHHH, thus the trouble. Big block cars have another leaf on each side due to the weight of the engine. Maybe whoever replaced the engine, didn't take this into account? Also, the torsion rods would have to be thicker on the front for a big block. Do the front tires look to be sitting low too?

    The car rides very solid and doesn't squat under full throttle on takeoff. It hooks straight and doesn't have the usual mopar side step that my other mopars had . Very solid ride at highway speeds

     He replaced the.930  torsion bars with the 1.00 bars when he rebuilt the front end so I don't have any suspension problems up front

    Eaton Spring or Espo spring , Mopar ones are made in Mexico & sag in about 12 mins
