    That came out fantastic Mike.....mine was a totally different color.  :sly:
    Great job and attention to detail getting the grains all lined up properly. Love seeing that.  :cheers:

    I haven't got any photos of my decals, I do know they were much lighter in shade.

    Thanks! It took a little doing but came out pretty sweet I think  :thumbsup:

    Also for those wanting some nice comparison pics of the repro woodgrain overlays versus originals, ck out this guys photo album. The main differences he states are that the woodgrain is a little different and that the flat brown paint on the bezels is more glossy than original.

    Mike, that does look good. The problems i've seen are as the years go by, the decals begin to lose adhesion. I have a set here where they were perfect when installed, but now 2 years later, they are beginning to bubble where they curve in. Looks to me like the adhesive on the paper is failing.

    good info - is really easy to apply a litle warmth, pull the decal back and apply a thin fim of contact glue to both sufaes and re-apply.  How about shrinkage? Any of the decal pulling away from the switch holes or bezel cutouts?

    Now that you mention it...that might be whats happening...the vinyl is shrinking and pulling away at the curved piece. The only way you could get glue to the back side of the vinyl would be to inject it with a syringe...or pull it away all the way to the top or bottom. I ordered the set off of e-bay, so I'll fill you all in when i get them and do the install.

    Mike, did you polish the chrome to get it looking that shiny, if so how did you do it?  Your results have convinced me to buy the decal and freshen up my bezel.  How long did take to restore it?

    Yes, I did it all in a weekend and it was very easy. Stripping the guage bezels was first. The metal under the paint already has a pretty fine microfinsh. I used Flitz metal polish on a dremel polishing wheel and they polished up nicely. Didint have to spend much time on this at all.  The decal also was a no-brainer. I did however cut the decal where the raised switch labels were because the decal didnt want to stay down. Also the switch holes were cut just a tad undersize. As a reult, I had to trim "toenails" with an exacto knife but it came out decent and you cant tell it was trimmed.  Truly, the pix dont do it justice - the finished product adds a very dramatic affect to your classic rallye dash.

    Probably from an auto paint store. When you are stripping the bezels be sure to let the stripper do all the work. Probably is obvious but dont use any metal objects like a putty knife or scraper. Any scratches you put in it will have to be polished out and will add up to more work. Just use a soft brush and take your time

    Thanks again for the info.  I have a couple more questions for you.  What type/brand stripper did you use?  And will this stripper take the brown off around the gauge circles.  I noticed on yours the big circles are chrome, I want to stay with the stock look of brown inside those circles.

    in that case, no stripper is necessary at all. You can simply scuff up the painted woodgrain sufaces, degrease with lacquer thinner or soap and water, and apply the decal. I thought you were going for the bold polished bezel look. You should still polish all the raised aluminum suraces with Flitz before you install the decal. To polish afterwards will risk damaging the decal

    Sorry for the miss understanding, I thought the stripper was for removing the wood gain.  As far as the polished bezel look goes, I was just looking to polish the raised aluminum that outlines the wood grain.  I want to keep the brown in the gauge circles.  Yours looks great, but I'm going to stay more with the stock look.  Thanks for all your help on this, I'll post picts when I get it done.

    miketyler that looks AWESOME with the polished bezel....  did I miss it, or did you explain how you got the woodgrain off before applying the decal?  Or does it NOT come off, and you just put the decal over it?
