« on: December 01, 2005 - 08:57:57 AM »
This is a little debate question me and one of my buddies have been tossing around, thought I would get some board opinions. - Sorry I am an idiot, the question should have read "which would you be most intimidated by in a race"

Well, I guess my vote made it a tie...lol
I went with the built 440 or 451 stroker 'cause maybe I'll be the one with the supercharged 340 in the other lane... :undercar:

Long ago in NYC, when I used to watch (cough, cough) street racers, the guys who never raised their hoods were the ones that used to run the big numbers.

Yep when I used to go to some late night street races, the blower guys never wanted to come and play, most of them bolted the blowers on almost stock motors and where so underdriven anyway just to remain street friendly.
It was the NOS guys ya had to worry about.
I still love seeing well built blower motors though.

personally I voted for the supercharged 340 based on the fact that most 340 cars leave really hard and with a little boost it might be able to hold off that big block, but that is just my opinion It is very interesting to see the voting come out so close.

The 340's are High revers and lighter.
But when your making 480lb-ft or 490lb-ft @ 3,200rpm or 2,300rpm (440-4bbl and 440-6bbl) stock that just can't be beat.

I still want a 340 though..... :lol2:

Well it is a good thing that the majority of these races are now settled on the tracks. So you are  right about underdriving the blower, but with a change of the pulleys :undercar:, and losing the drive belts, watch out. :wow: I love 340's I think they are the best all around Mopar motor, but remember, run what ya brung, and hope ya brung enough.

If you had to build a complete motor now and money was too tight, why wouldn't you build a stroker motor. I would love to take one of my 340's a make it a 416 with edelbrock heads and intake. Would be a great street motor. Much lighter internally and externally than a383 or 400. Just my 2cents.
