Reproduction fender tag needed
« on: December 05, 2005 - 11:33:28 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get a reproduction fender tag.  Galen won't give me one due to the fact my cars original owner is dead.  He has to talk to all previous owners of said car.  Due to the age of these cars this is going to get more and more difficult.   :banghead: Might slow his business down.  Thanks.

We used these guys.  http://www.datatags.com/  Much less expensive and they didn't require speaking to all previous owners (that cracked me up!).  They will require some documentation though...they won't fake one!

I have original tag codes on file for 100s and 100s of cars, if I have the original codes for yours I will tell you what they are for free, just email or PM me with the VIN and I will check my files for you.

If I do have something, I do require proof that you actually have the car and that you are the legal owner though.

I have a similar problem; I brought my barracuda and the fender tag is missing, the only thing I have is the VIN# I took the car apart and I did'nt find no build sheet either does anyone out there know of anyone who has dealt with these types of situations?, Or anyone know of someone who deals with said problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated I tried with galen and got nowhere; I even found the dealership name where the car was brought from and it does not exist anymore. I am at a lost! :walkaway:

Hi,
I had a new tag made from the people at www.datatags.com and can't speak highly enough of them, I did supply clear copies of my build sheet & what research I had done they checked & corrected my data, made a very accurate tag for a very reasonable price & sent it out to me in New Zealand.

Well done datatags.com!

Thank you for your help.  I have owned 2 of these cars for 25 years.  Had I known about build sheets and fender tags then this would not have happened.  Back then no one cared.  I have replaced both of these interiors w/ seats from junkyards.  I'm sure my original build sheets went w/ my orig. interiors.  I removed the fender tags when I repainted the firewalls.  I believe those were tossed along w/ the original aircleaners and exhaust manifolds.  I have contacted Data tags and we'll see what happens.  Thanks again.

Just to add an update.  Datatags says they will do the tag for me.

That's great news!  They usually have a pretty good turn-around, you'll have it in no time!

Hey Alaskan TA, I would hope you do the right thing and give them the fender tag if they do in fact prove they are the owner.  It sounds like you just read off what the tag is to them but really what good does a tag do you if you don't own the car.

Just my two cents and hope you agree (eventually if nothing else).   :iagree:

If I had someones original tag, then yes, for sure they would get it. Some people have.

I have tag info for 1000s of cars, some folks were writing the codes down as early as 1975 that I know of. If I have any info, whether it is an original item or not, it is free to the owner of the car, all they have to do is prove they own it and that it still exists.

Code info is not listed on my site, but the original items that I do have, fender tags included, are.

Barry

Can anyone tell me what DataTags.com charges to reproduce a fender tag.  I still have my original and would like a repro so I can keep my rusty original safe.  Thanks ,  Ed

You should get it for about $50 if you have the original to copy from, they like the tags to be accurate & research costs extra.

Thanks, the history or item as the case may be belongs with the car, it is something that I feel quite strongly about, and every so often an item finds it's way back to the car.

There is no fee for this service and never will be as far as I am concerned.
