Door latch problem

I have a problem with the drivers side door latch on my Challenger. There is a hard rubber bumper on the latch that has developed a flat spot. If the bumper is rotated such that the arm that strikes this bumper hits the flat spot, the latch does not work properly. I have to use the inside and outside handle to open the door. I have rotated the bumper so the flat spot is not contacted, but it always rotates back to the same spot. Has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you fix it? Or does anyone have a drivers side latch assembly that does not have a flat spot on the bumper?

Have you tried glueing/ siliconing the bumper so it will stay in place until you can get a new latch mech ?

I have thought doing that, and that is probably what I will end up doing. I've also thought about drilling out the rivet (I think its riveted on) on the pin that holds the bumper, then replace the bumper and weld the pin back on. If I try that I have to get the proper durometer rubber. The easiest would just replace the latch. I guess I am curious if this is a common problem with these old latches. I've never heard anyone else mention having the problem.
