cool find
« on: December 05, 2005 - 06:48:33 PM »
first of im gonna give you just a little bit of info so you understand how cool this was to me...

my towns population is about 1200ish, so everyone knows everyone, and i didnt think there was ANYONE in this town that likes mopar, or any muscle cars for that matter, theres a chevy restoration shop, but thats about it in the way of classics

well, heres the story

i was drivin around town and i had to stop at this intersection and i just happened to look sideways, and up in the backyard of a guys house, i see a car, which looks like an e-body, under a car cover...  i turn in the alley, and drive real slow through, and sure enough, its a green challenger with a 340-6 in need of a resto

ive drove by there probably 400 times, and NEVER have i noticed that... i knew there was a car up there, but i never payed much attention to it

anyway, i got home and told my mom about it, and she said, well maybe we can talk to him and see if he would sell it!!!     just so you know, that is VERY out of character for my mom

so, sometime in the near future, im going to visit with the guy, and see if he is planning on restoring it or what

Let me tell you from my own experience...DON'T GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT HE SAYS!!!!
I found my car pretty much the same way you did. It was two miles from my house. I drove buy it for 2 years never knowing what it was. Then one Saturday morning I was going to get my dog some food and I drove passed it. The night before we had a bad storm--lots of wind and rain and when I drove by the car cover had blowin up alittle just enough to show me 4 chrome pipes sticking out.....I dam near snapped my neck.. Well I just new I would have to check it out and I drove by several times hoping to catch someone outside but it nevered happened. Finally after about 6 months of drive by's I finally stop and knocked on the door and the owner came out and I said I had noticed the car and wondered if I could take a look at it. He said sure and when he pulled the cover off I dam near fainted. There was a rust free Calif. 70 Challenger R/T convertible. So to make a long story short we taked about selling and price but he really didn't want to sell and was $ 2,000.00 higher than I wanted to pay so I thanked him and went on my way. I did make it a point to stop by when I saw him out and just throw the bull with him even if we didn't talk about the car. That went on for 6 years yes I said 6 years and then out of the blue I met him at our local Y.M.C.A. where I was teaching karate classes and he said he wanted to get his 14 year old son into class so we talk some more and then he said  hey do you still want to buy the car---I said YES !! The next day I was towing it home to my house and for $ 500.00 less than what I originally offered him. So the moral of the story is if he says NO then be kind and just try to build up a friendship with the guy and don't pressure him.. Hopefully it will work out for you..

I would go and talk to the owner ASAP. Somebody else may also see it for the first time. Strike while the irons hot. :bigthumb:

That sounds like a potential project, NeedaCuda.  I'd love to find something like that near me cause chances are the person needs some cash and would be willing to get rid of it for a fair price.  (usually at least)
