Color or 70 Cuda jack
« on: December 06, 2005 - 12:24:40 PM »
I've seen different colors painted on 70 Barracuda jacks. My 70 was built on 11-69 and looks like the original jack was black with the mast painted silver. I was missing the jack hook so I bought a jack hook and it came painted a light dove gray color. Hope some one has pictures and can let me know what the base, hook, and jack mast shoold be painted. My Cuda is a MI. built car just in case this made a difference. Thanks in advance.

Ive seen black, and I've seen turquoise(sp). I'm not sure of any rhyme or reason though.  :dunno: Anyone else have a guess???

My MI Cuda has light gray on the base and hook. Mast is just bare metal, with what looks like a coating on it.
It's to old to tell, probably to keep it from rusting.

My was built 6-70

Well, just depends on what year Cuda you have and when it was built.

The earlier 70 cudas have a solid "Y" shaped jack post (silver), with a grey jack body, hook, and base. The later 70 and 71 Cudas have a hollow jack post (usually yellow cad), with grey body, hook and base. The rubber bumper cars have a diff hook than the steel bumper cars do.

The later e bodies (72 and later) have the slotted bumpers to accept the one jack fits all style jack. they have a hollow post (cad plated), with often a turquoise body and stand.

I'm sure there are variations on the above according to what supplier was used at what assembly plant. What I've stated above is what I've seen thru 30+ years of playing around with these cars...I'm sure someone might have more exact info.

My jack in my 12-12-69 1970 Cuda looks like it is original and it has the grey paint. Frank Badalson at Roger Gibson Restoration sells the correct grey paint- it's $30 for 1/2 pint. Don't know if anybody else sells it or not. Badalson is not necessarily cheapest, but you can go to the bank on it being correct.

There were at least 5 or 6 different suppliers/types of jacks used and date of manufacture of the car had nothing to do with what type of jack it received, the car got whatever jack was in the bin.  Supposedly the Barracudas received the hollow jack and Challengers the solid "T" style, however I have seen enough vatiations to seriously doubt that statement.  The hollow was gold zinc and the solid was silver, both had gray rachet assembly's.  Dove gray, made by several companies is a good color choice.

Thanks for all the replies everybody. Looks like grey is what it should be. The picture above shows a grey jack handle. I never knew the jack handles were ever painted grey. Guess I just never paid attention but thought they were all black..
