    Hemi Challenger New or Old, what would you buy?

    For the sake of argument, let's assume Dodge makes a new Hemi Challenger and it looks as good as the spy photos.  Given that, all you have to do is to walk into the dealership and check off any option you want including convertible, colors, etc., would you do it instead of getting a classic?

    Things to keep in mind are fun, usability, cost, new has a warranty and the other usual things.

    Would you do that rather than buying a restored one (out of reach for most), restoring one (many say it's cheaper to buy one done)?

    I hate to be the one to say this out loud , , , but , , , I really don't think that , after going to the link and seeing the pictures , ohhh shoot, It doesn't look all that bad ! It seems to have that flow to it! I could probably never afford one , but it looks , actually pretty good. In my mind , IT WILL NEVER, NEVER replace the origonal 1970's muscle car image of the Challenger, never even get close, but it ain't nowhere near as ugly as that darned charger thing !
    Guess if I had a choice it would have to be building a clone!Who on this earth has the kind of cash flow to buy an origonal HEMI CHALLENGER?
    Way too rich for my blood!

    NO question!!! HEMI old, restored would be good but I'd rather have a clone.

    They don't make them like they use to, end of story. If it wasn't for the originals the retro Challenger wouldn't exist.


    If you were talking to two guys one said
    "Yip, I got a Challenger 2008" the other "Yip, I got a Challenger 1970" I know where I'd be looking first.

    I also know which one would make me think "WOW!!"  more than the other...........

    Id choose the hemi challenger, the Q implies we can afford them and thats the one I like most.

    a little loaded question.  If I had unlimited funds or all options were priced the same I would go I would definetly get a restored original, if not probably project, new, clone, restored.

    I would buy a new one, I could not afford a 70 71 real Hemi Challenger now.

    According to the picture from MPH that we aren't supposed to see, they say it'll cost about $28K.  Is that for the 5.7 or 6.1 Hemi?  They make mention of 425hp, so I'll assume the 6.1 L.

    Both would be fun.  A '70 will definately have an edge as far as the "Oooo, I hafta see that!" sort of feeling.  The image is there with the '70.  Warranty is nice.  I definately lack the time/ space/ $$$ to do a full restoration myself.  Definately agree with VPOINTCUDA that the new will never have the image of the '70......awwww I dunno!!!!!!

    I say, there aren't gonna be many '70 Challengers left on this planet for everyone so If I could get one I would.  Make it a clone so I don't dirty my shorts everytime a shopping cart comes close to it at the mall!

    Another thing to remember is if they do produce this car the HEMI name will take a bit of a hit.
    There will be many around with basically 60% of the Challenger shaving the 6.1 or 6.4L HEMI.

    If they do make them, I hope they make a limited production of HEMI cars or else they could turn into a "Oh, ANOTHER HEMI"  :sleeping:

    That's why the HEMI cars of the muscle car era will never be challenged, what they made is it, no more.

    i would LOVE to have an original Hemi Chllenger, but the question was buy and have the most FUN with.  I would be afraid to drive an original one, but I know I would have fun with a new one! :burnout:

    So far, voting has the new car leading by 55% so even if you add up all the others together, the new is winning.

    Nice comments guys, I'd like to see where this ends up.  I hadn't heard anything yet about a 6.4 Hemi that was mentioned below.

    I would buy a Hemi Challenger Clone as I could have more fun in it and not worry about breaking the Hemi motor or blowing it up. I will still try to buy one of the New Hemi Challengers but it will have to look alot like the 70's Challenger or I will pass it up and not buy one.

    I agree, the new Challenger would never replace the old one.  I bet when the new one comes out it will be just like the Prowler when it first came out.  The dealers will jack up the prices so don't expect to pay $28,000.  $28,000 was the price the Prowlers were supposed to sell for when they first came out and you see what they sold for.  The dealers always jack up the prices on first generation cars.  The Vipers, PT Cruisers, Prowlers, etc. all sold for a lot more at first than what Chrysler advertised them to sell for.  Hope everyone has a wonderful week.
