'70 'Cuda 440 + 6 - Unrestored but complete. What's it worth?
« on: December 11, 2005 - 06:07:21 AM »
All,

Saw a '70 Cuda the other day in a parking lot and had a chance to talk to the owner.  According to him, it's an original six barrel 440 car, but he sold the 6 pack setup and the hood many years ago.  If I remember correctly, it's got an automatic and pretty sure it has a Dana 60.  The engine has been modified somewhat (MSD ignition, hotter cam, etc), but apparently is the original engine.  Body looks pretty straight, but has a lousy coat of paint over it.  Did not see any evidence of rust.  Interior is black, complete, and in very good shape.  Exterior is blue.  Has Centerlines; not sure if he still has the original wheels.

Anyway, I'm guessing that the guy who owns it has no idea what kind of $$$ these cars are bringing these days (a restored one on E-Pay right now is going for $75k or so), and I was thinking about making him an offer.  Assuming the info above is correct, can anyone give me a ballpark on what it's worth?  Also, is there any way to easily pull some codes off the car or engine to better document it?

Thanks!

Scott

If it's an original 6 pak car, check the VIN on the dash. the 5th letter should be a V   (BS23V.......). The last 6 numbers on the VIN should match up to the numbers on the radiator support, and also on the cowl area.
 Hope this helps

It is had to say without seeing the car and checking out all the info. I would say anywhere from $ 7500.00 to $20,000.00.
I passed up a straight--rust free all together 70 440+6 cuda race car myself 3 years ago for $ 10,000.00 because I thought it was to much but now I wish I bought the dam thing....it was also Blue with a black interior with centerlines on it..what state is this car in ??
good luck

Must be a different car; the guy who owns it now has had it for a while, but pretty sure he's never raced it.  Car is in Virginia.  So, assuming it does have all the original equipment (minus carbs, hood, coil), no rust issues, checks out to be an original 6 pack car, what do you think?  $15,000?

Thanks!

I'd say, if it is only missing the hood and carb setup, it would be more like 20k.  This IS a 70 V code, after all.

That sounds like my buddy Earls car.  I thought I had a better pic of it on my comp, but this is the only one I can find.  Can you tell if this is the car?  If it is Earls, I don't think he would sell for $20,000.

Well, I think his name is Earl, and he lives near Charlottesville, VA.  Older black guy; real friendly.  Is this the same guy?  Looks like his car, but hard to tell from the picture.

WOW, all those prices sound too cheap... remember this $7,500 'V' code Cuda on eBay (pics below)... or the one that Troy (hemi68charger) recently sold for $10,000.  If it is the blue '70 in the picture above, my guess would be $50,000+ even with the missing parts... Just my opinion tho...

The person who paid 7500.00 for that heap is just plain crazy or is up to no good !!!!Remember a FOOL and his MONEY are soon PARTED.
I saw two 440+6 70 Cuda at the auction 2 months ago and one bidded up to 105,000 and the other 125,000. and these were concour restos.
You pay 50,000 for a car that needs a complete resto and you put another 50,000. in it where are you??
Unless you plan on keeper it or holding it for a few years and hope the prices keep increasing.
Just my 2 cents

Yeah, it's the same guy.  He's had the car almost 20 years, just got it on the road in the last year or 2.  Real V code car with original engine, needs a good paint job and a console.

If he is a true Mopar guy he's not going to sell it as cheap as you might think. After all how many original 440-6 packs go up for sale? He's going to want a few more coins than 20k. :money: In my opinion it is often better to ask the owner if they are willing to sell, and what the asking price would be. I would do this before asking anyone else. Because if he is reading along here, he might get offended that you might of thought that you could have gotten his car on a lowball offer. Just my  :2cents:.

I have to agree that 20K is alittle light for that car!!  Some pics would be cool!

I have to agree if the numbers match this is more than a $20,000 V- Code Cuda. I sold my 1070 BS23VO Cuda for $6,800 in 1989 and have lost sleep over it everysince.

I found another pic of Earls car.  It is a 4 speed, I think.  I have seen the vin and it is a V code.  He just put the Dana 60 in it this year.
