Welding sway bar brackets

Silly question, but what kind of steel are the lower control arms made out of?  Just regular carbon steel?  What welding rod would I use to stick some front sway bar brackets on there?  Thanks.

I boxed my lower control arms and just used my mig to do it.  They are regular steel.  I would be more concerned with what the swaybar bracket is made of.  The ones that came with my Firm Feel bar are suppose to bolt on like the originals and the bracket is actually cast.  If yo are making your own, then no problem.
